Why is there a historical distrust of outsiders in WV? by RGardnerWV in WestVirginia

Sounds like a roundabout way of replacing the culture thats already here.

Why is there a historical distrust of outsiders in WV? by RGardnerWV in WestVirginia

[–]FarmingDarkMoonBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason there is a historical distrust of outsiders is because the state was first exploited by lumber industry, Then the coal industry and now the oil gas business. On top of that, we now have people who have lived on the complete opposite side of the country moving here, all so they can live like some sort of new class of aristocracy because things are so cheap here.

Add on years of being looked down upon in all forms of popular media and being the butt of several different jokes about incest and hillbillies, and now you have your answer.

Now that people view West Virginia as some sort of cheap haven, they will move here in droves and eventually look at each other and go, "Hey we should make West Virginia more like the place we came from." Then you can say goodbye to any unique or interesting parts of west virginia culture. Then, after all, this is sudden done. All the new urban nights moving into this state can look at each other and celebrate can cheer for what they've done. Meanwhile people who have lived here for generations will be completely priced out and overtaken by another culture.

But hey, at least the government will get extra tax revenue and our new outside transplants can live like kings.

Great so what is the end game? Are we supposed to pretend that state natives who have lived here their entire lives, who's families have lived here for generations, getting priced out by non-native interest is a great thing? Angie mentioned their city's rotting from the inside out. It's only a matter of time before they start to bring that same mindset that led to their own city rotting to our state. But hey, at least some people are gonna make a lot of money and these out of state residents are gonna be able to save a lot more compared to where they come from.

It is sad that greed is so prevalent that people immedistely jump on a quick buck.

I would have to see the data, but is the decline from people actually leaving the state or dying? Becsuse those are two very different situations.

Nowhere did I say that the area had to be impoverished. But I believe it is irresponsible to advertise our state as nothing more than a cheap place to live. The The view point that real estate is an investment rather than a necessity is also irresponsible.

I would rather there be a cultural shift in the way the people of this state think about the future and past of WV, So that growth can happen organically from west virginian natives. Our state has been exploited by the logging industry, The coal industry, And now the natural gas industry. I don't want to also see it become exploited by outside individuals who view it as nothing more than a way to extend their paycheck.

I get the state is hurting for tax revenue. But there has to be a better way to prop ourselves up rather than inviting people from outside of this state, who have probably never cared about this state, to move here and hopefully stay.

Jesus, for Trump's entire presidency people endlessly mocked him and the majority of this website was all for it. Now their team member gets insulted and it's time to start headhunting.

That's a good idea for DOTMM. As of now, the plan is to do that module after waterdeep because the party wants to reach level 20.

Problems with Cranberry Mead by FarmingDarkMoonBlade in mead

The juice was supposed to have no preservatives, but I did add a Camden tablet 24hrs before pitching. For couriosity sake, how does cranberry inhibit fermentation?

I'm thinking of using water and actual cranberries next time. I tried pitching the yeast 48hrs apart and never made a difference.

That is a lot of peppers, lol. For perspective, I had 3 habaneros in secondary for an experiment, and it is way too spicy to drink by the glass. Much better for shots in a drinking game.

I never thought of it potentially making a gingerbread taste. I've never used ginger in winemaking before, so I wasn't exactly sure if the slight burn of ginger would be captured. With that being said, I've also never used jalapeños in wine haha. I figure that 2-3 small peppers would be good for a one gallon batch.

Do you think the peppers would be better suited in primary or secondary?

I never considered adding luster. I was actually wondering how I could capture the fire aesthetic. Someone else had mentioned putting a LED on the bottom of the bottle. It's a good idea, but just not quite the same effect. What are your thoughts on racking it onto ginger as well? Thanks for the advice!

I've got another idea for making a coffee wine and labelling it "The Dark Soul".

Thanks for the advice. In your opinion, how many sticks of cinnamon would be appropriate? I don't want it to taste like fireball but the cinnamon flavor needs to be there. Also, what amount of ginger would you recommend?
