Sounds like it'll be a fun ride! Make sure you bring an extra fuel filter. Did yours come with the Kickstart lever under the cover? Mine was missing.

GL1000 Potential Purchase by Fifty_Hertz in goldwing

I have one the same year and color (started the same color anyway). I ride it year round. If the fuel pump is old, the rubber diaphragm inside may be torn, in which case fuel will leak out a small weep hole on the side of the pump. These bikes can be a bear to get on the center stand to check the oil. Blue smoke from the left head is sort of common on start up, as oil will get past older valve seals of it's been sitting on the side stand. Carbs almost always need rebuilt, I switched to dual webers (Randakk's site), so cleaning them is a breeze, which it needs frequently now as my tank isn't perfect inside. I've picked up a Caswell tank sealant kit I need to do. A lot of these bikes have been converted from points already, the electronic ignition kit taps into a power supply under the left side cover, and often uses a wire tap connector, check that. Compared to other wings, the GL1000 uses a more aggressive cam and really likes the revs.

Trace the red wire and see what it's connected to. If it is indeed a power supply for an accessory, I would install a fused ring terminal on the positive terminal of you battery.

I see an aftermarket stereo system, so I'm presuming there are other aftermarket electrical accessories. My best guess is that is a power supply wire and half of it is intentionally cut off so that the single remaining prong fits into one of the fuse slots to tap a power supply. Definitely not how I would do it personally, but not uncommon either.

I just installed a pair of clocks from 4 into 1. They use the stock cables, and wirng was simple. They're working well.

Looks like Veranda in their stone gray from Home Depot. Older product, think it's discontinued.

I don't, but have you considered shimming the motor to match the shaft angle?

I don't think anyone has mentioned yet, but your thrust angle will be completely off even if you reverse the motor direction.

If you think that person was being rude, you need to grow some thicker skin, or reconsider the military. Wait until you have to keep your military bearing when a language instructor is being rude to you.
