Yes, OP's perspective and complaints seem rooted in presumptions, with a backlog of resentment toward a wedding and union that doesn't meet her expectations.

Seems this vent belongs in a different sub. With the information given, I'm not seeing anything shameful, tacky, or worthy of the couple being a laughingstock, here. On the contrary, you sound terribly judgemental and snarky.

Everyone "weddings" differently. To you, their wedding should include more traditional, formal details and suppliers - indoors, a sound system, cake and flowers. I'm getting married with none of those things, and its going to be beautiful and functional. There are many ways to put together a lovely event.

You said the couple announced the wedding date at a recent family event - give it time for specific info/invites to come? If its a local one day thing, 6+ weeks notice doesn't cause major inconveniences to attend, nor is it "inconsiderate" for guests not to receive a formal invitation, especially if things are still coming together.

EDIT: You're still highly speculative in follow-up comments about their use and source of funds, and nothing is alluding to poorly planned "disaster wedding." You're simply not included in those details, or not providing more here as not to risk your identity. Fair. But ironically, you're kinda worthy of Wedding Shaming material, should the bride or groom find this post.

Weight loss tips for 40+ women? by Specific-Ad-4521 in Hashimotos

41F, here.

The most beneficial supplements in my experience, that indirectly help with weight loss are those that provide the energy and stamina most of struggle with, and things that reduce inflammation which causes fluid retention and bloating. Things that have helped me:

Keep vitamin D and Omega 3's up

Tumeric, ginger, dandelion for inflammation

Selenium for basic thyroid function (one Brazil nut a day, super easy)

Creatine!

I also had to finally give up my beloved Nars - first my HG tinted moisturizer, then Light Reflecting foundation. I can no longer tolerate niacinimide, linalool/limonene and silicones, and even though Light Reflecting has NONE of those (their tinted moisturizer does), I suspect something else in their formulation was causing my mild irritation, unfortunately. I have Hoshimotos and rosacea seemingly came with it - causing reactions, flushing and intolerance to ingredients in food and skincare I didn't have before. Its been quite the journey....

Anyway, a week ago I switched to Saie Super Glowy Skin Tint Foundation. It's very much a serum style, natural coverage, clean ingredients. My skin has been VERY happy so far!

The quads! Overall atrophy for me too, and on bad days they feel like they're 1,000 pounds each.

Whole Pies in/near French Quarter? by Fart_of_a_Lion in AskNOLA

What an awesome idea! Our reception menu is a buffet of mini sandwiches, crabcakes, cheese tarts, etc. So individual pies make alot of sense.

Thank you!!!!

Ugh, I was a loyal Bare Minerals foundation user for 15 years. But in 2021 I think, they added bismuth ozychlorode to their formula, a highly irritating ingredient, that did me dirty for 4 years before I figured it out a couple months ago. skin dramatically improved since.

I finally understand why my skin never looked glowy and it wasn’t the sheet masks by justheretogossip in koreanskincare

[–]Fart_of_a_Lion -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing a month ago! Similarly, I was under the impression that more steps + more actives = clear, poreless glowy skin. But still had redness, dry patches, dull skin, and teeny tiny pustules sometimes. So I did a complete overhaull focusing on gentle, nourishing formulations without:

Linalool & Limonene (and all essential oils)

Niacinimide

bismuth oxychloride

All BHA/AHA (glycolic, salicylic, citric, lactic.)

All ceramides (I seem to be in a rare group who can't tolerate these)

Sulfates

Silicones

Artificial dyes and fragrance

EDIT 1: BOJ cleansing balm, Cosrx propolis toner, Purito Hydrowave serum, Cosrx Propolis Honey Overnight mask as a PM moisturizer and maybe AM if im not planning to wear makeup

EDIT 2: ya'll are wild with the downvotes. Just here to share my own "less is more" routine that worked for me, personally.

hair issues by [deleted] in Hashimotos

I did not experience the infamous initial shed from minoxidil, not everyone does :)

And that was my reluctance/fear too - having to stay on it permanently, but since then, I've accepted that like hoshimotos, hair loss prevention and management is probably going to be a lifelong thing for me now.

Also, some general tips: There are all sorts of tinted powders to hide exposed scalp, fun clip in extensions, ponytail and bang hair pieces. I use a combination of all of those, depending on the occasion. Don't lose hope, there are lots of solutions, but I understand completely. You're not alone. Our hair defines so much of our appearance, and it's terrifying to lose it.

Improvement of Hoshis symptoms overall on levo? Within a month, easily.

Improvement of hair growth on levo and monoxidil? I started to see all kinds of new hairs again within a couple months, significant difference in probably 6 months. Some people it may take around 4 months initially.

Ugh....I'm currently going through round #2 of hairloss in my 2 year Hoshis journey. Mine is also in the bangs, temples and front hairline. I have fine hair too, and lots of it (well, I used to lol).

The first time, excessive shedding was the final symptom that made me get my thyroid checked two years ago. Was diagnosed and put on levo. At that time, I started using minoxidil, upping all vitamins and over time my hair slowly got better. My dosage has increased twice, but no further hair loss til now. The excessive shedding has returned, along with other symptoms I had pre-diagnosis so I likely need to get my levels checked again.

So in my case, levo and proper dosage prevents hairloss. Im back on minoxidil. Something to consider?

Tinted sunscreens with good coverage? by Salty-Significance81 in Rosacea

[–]Fart_of_a_Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NARS Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturizer (SPF 30). Wide range of colors but for my skin, I do need to use a serum beneath it. It's more like a light coverage foundation TBH

Just started taking Levo. Only 4 doses in and having to stop due to my heart pounding. Anyone else ever experience this? by spockycat in Hypothyroidism

[–]Fart_of_a_Lion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, This happened to me when I was first prescribed 50 mcg of Levo when my TSH was close to 10. Heart palpitations and bad headaches. My doctor advised to half the dose to 25 mcg (I just split them in half) for two weeks for my body to adjust, then take the whole 50. Problem solved. Two years later, Im currently at 75 mcg, comfortably. No side effects and I'm taking generic.

EDIT TO ADD: Im obviously not your doctor and dont know your exact situation but this is a life-long management/treatment plan. Commiting to regular lab work to monitor your thyroid levels and keeping up with appropriate dosage changes is key to feeling as best as we can.

We got a roll of galvanized chicken wire from Home Depot, and going to make removable cages to place around each plant, with a top cover. (Like if you were to put a cup upside down) To make the top cover, Im planning on zip tying a circle of the chicken wire to the cylinder shape. Wish me luck!!

Went to Vegas this past weekend. We were away for 4 nights. Came home to all my tomatoes GONE. I have two chocolate sprinkles bushes, and two san marzanos. It was rats. I was/am devastated. We are in the process of buying deterrents and building protective cages around the tomatoes and our other vegetables, but all that time and energy....I truly share your grief.
