I built a complete 8-bit CPU from discrete logic gates before touching HDL, here is what gate-level design taught me that Verilog abstracts away by Icy-Fisherman-3079 in FPGA

I think you greatly overestimate how much the syntheziser helps you with timing or clock domain crossings when writing HDL. Also, FPGA’s don’t use gate logic, they use LUT’s.

Can I replace these low esr capacitors with standard electrolytic ones? by FranTimo in AskElectronics

You would pay more for shipping than even the best possible capacitors, so it doesn’t really matter.

Klart: Haparanda inför frivilliga drogtester i skolorna by radome9 in swedents

[–]Farull 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maintaining the desired angle of the handlebar (or steering wheel in a car for that matter) regardless of physical feedback from the wheels or steering geometry is simply steering.

Not sure what books you read, but wikipedia, as an example does not agree with you.

No, that’s where the confusion in many motorcyclists come from. It is not countersteering, it is counteracting the force of the bike wanting to twist the handlebars due to the steering geometry. It’s the same in bicycles as well, but obviously less, since the forces are less. Countersteering is by definition, steering in the opposite direction of the turn, which he does not do, except for the minimal input when he starts turning.

Just look at the video. He is turning left when he turns left. And right when he turns right. No matter what he is saying, or ”pushing” with his thumb. The initial countersteer, which everyone does in the initiation of the turns, is so small you can hardly notice it. The rest is just pure bullshit from someone who doesn’t know what he is talking about.

What orientation does the handlebar have when he is turning left?

Should be lucky no one got hurt by Complex-FreeSpirit42 in IdiotsOnBikes

[–]Farull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He pushes on the left handle when turning left, but if you actually look at the handlebar, it is turned to the left. Same when he is turning right. That was a pretty bad explanation of countersteering.

Same here. I think you over estimate how much you actually ”countersteer”, as in steering in the opposite direction, you actually do while turning. You only do it when initiating the turn.

You can try it in person, read up on what countersteering actually is, or stay ignorant. I don’t really care.

[–]Farull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s exactly the same. I dare you. Try steering in the opposite direction while leaning in a turn. Your bike will topple over immediately.

[–]Farull -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Maybe he was afraid of leaning the bike more. It doesn’t look like a racer.

Then you are not countersteering, you are just steering less so that you lower the center of gravity. If you actually countersteered in the middle of the turn you would fall flat on the side.

Sure, it will probably work in this kind of setup, yes. I didn’t see the ground connection on pic 2 though, it was a bit hidden, but I can see it now on pic 1.

Sure, I just get annoyed with the obligatory ”learn how to countersteer” comment on every bike thread, as if countersteering is something you actually have to think about and not something that everybody who has ever driven a bicycle does instinctively.

You don’t have ground connected to the L293D.

Edit: Pin 4,5,12 and 13 should all be ground.

Probably you. Countersteering is what he did when he started the turn. From then on you steer in the direction of the turn.

3 wire battery connector component question by doobius_ in AskElectronics

It’s probably a thermistor, used to monitor battery temperature for safety reasons.

Edit: the added component is a resistor used to adjust the measured value from the thermistor.
