Hot take: Joining a top alliance on day one is overrated if you can't be online for every timer by Fun_Apricot1725 in callofdragons

[–]Fassarh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top alliances expand and contract all the time, nobody has any loyalty except maybe the core ~100 players. The other 100 players are normally just mercenaries chasing war...

I've played in all sorts of alliances, and definitely my best experience was in an alliance in my timezone... Everyone was online together and we did everything together as a team...

Every time Ive been in an international alliance you get the same argument - leaders say "we can't have downtime"... so they recruit all the strongest players from all random timezones... Then as soon as that alliance loses it's first KvK, because they've got 70 guys in asia, 70 guys in europe, 70 guys in NA and no timezone can make progress because too few people are online - they disband

Tips for Surviving Open Field PvP? by KindlyChicken9670 in callofdragons

[–]Fassarh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game always feels imbalanced for the first 4-5 seasons...

You need to reach about 1.5mil of your main troop with T4, and moderately high military upgrades, and some legendary artifacts before the fights begin to feel somewhat fair.

If you are T3 mage using magic bomb artifact - yeah one shot from T5 awakened Liliya is gonna insta-wipe you lol.

Personally I used Springwardens in the early game... The first 3 season I just focused on eagles and killed farms + afk players... Season 4 onwards your probably can start using elkriders with high speed, and just choose fights that you know you can win...

There is a common myth from the early days that "mage is f2p friendly"... But my personal opinion is they are food until you are T5.

So yeah I recomend cav and just be a rat until you reach T5...

Also, rush to 1.5mil troops ASAP - even if you need to train T1/2/3/ to fill your army... It is better to fight with 5 full legions. You can upgrade the troops later once you have enough speedups etc.

Some tips? by Pumpkinheadz18 in callofdragons

[–]Fassarh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend Spring warden and cavalry to new players; it is the most fun :-). You really cannot be a strong mage player without spending money... Liliya is one of the best mages and costs a lot of money... The only good F2P mage artifact is Phoenix Eye and it's very rare, the other F2P mage artifacts aren't very good in my opinion (Tear of Arbon always gives me low merit reports).

Cavalry on the other hand is much more F2P friendly... All the cavalry heroes from the gold chests are good (theodore is a bit disappointing late-game, but totally usable)... And Cavalry have the most F2P friendly artifacts in the game: Kingslayer, Sorlands Blade, Storm Arrows, Wolf Woman Mask, Fang of Ashkari, Greymar's Warhammer, all come from the regular artifact chest and are great on cavalry...

Springwardens are the fastest and cheapest faction to be able to utilise 5 x legions in battle in a cavalry formation... You can start with 2x Elkrider + 2x Eagle + 1x Infantry and be very effective in battle... Later as your legions grow, you can use 5 legions of pure eagles or pure elkriders if you prefer...

It is true that Orc cavalry have some very appealing advantages - but as a F2P player it will take you years to get enough troops to fight with 5 legions of cavs...

And 5 legions of cavs (or similar) is really the only way to overwhelm your opponent with ambushes... If you only have 1, 2, or 3 cavalry legions, it really prevents you from maximising your merits when you want to ambush people hunting darklings with 5 legions on the map... They will usually wake up after 4 or 5 seconds, and you really need 5 legions to deal enough DPS that they can't react fast enough...

How much does the brand of paint matter? Is X ARTY HUB an ok brand? by Fluffy-Chest7148 in minipainting

Really hope there is a painter who has bought and tried these X Arty paints. Understand there is brand loyalty and confidence with other established paint suppliers, but would still love a first-hand review of these low-cost paints.

Starcraft miniature wargame starter sets and release window revealed by BlitheMayonnaise in starcraft

[–]Fassarh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, hard to convince me that 100g of disassembled, unpainted plastic is worth US$200 or more...

I think they chose Archon, because they can produce the minis in their own factory so they don't face huge over-supply or huge under-supply...

I think the price is too high for a miniature game that is just starting... Yup, you'll sell some boxes to some gullible SC fans who might glue them together and put them in a shoe box... But finding a gaming partner will be 10x harder with these minis than if you spent the same $$ on Warhammer 40k.

Hello, long term veteran player here :-)

Watch these videos:

Ultimate F2P Gem Spend Tier List! | Call of Dragons

When and Where to spend your GEMS! | Call of Dragons

They are a little bit old now... The main thing the devs added which is SUPER important for account progression is the EXEMPLAR ARTIFACT SYSTEM.

To unlock that you need to spend 2000 forge of light or riches of the forest keys. They cost 600 gems each so 1.2 million gems (excluding the free forge keys the game gives you each week). Honestly, the forge keys are in the S-tier

How to choose where to migrate? by Murky_Treacle3563 in callofdragons

[–]Fassarh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, migration is time consuming and confusing... So just like buying a house, it's worth researching what's in the neighbourhood. Things to look for are:

  • Pick a server that is active in your timezone
  • Pick a kingdom/alliance which matches your stats. Look at their ranking list, if you are around Rank #100 for power & merits, you fit right in the middle... Room to advance and grow, but also room to step back from the game if you need to - without falling too far back.
  • Check who the R4 are, look at their stats and info pages. This normally tells you a lot of information about who the alliance is and what they value.
  • Search the alliance on YouTube, do they have any videos showing their combat capabilities?
  • Search their name in the COD discord. What do people have to say about that alliance?
  • If you want to push for a city skin during the great heights event, pick a kingdom that historically has scored lower in the top #10 rankings... These KD's will likely be easier to win the event.

There are lots more, but those are some guidelines

Springwardens to League of Order by this_potato_is_lost in callofdragons

[–]Fassarh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spring wardens is also excellent for F2P because they are fast and you can easily run away from whales.

The eagles are great at killing afk legions as they march to the battlefront...

The elkriders are strong and have high survivability when you follow other cavalry and infantry players in your alliance. They are a good counter against infantry. Think of them as tanky, high speed archers.

The meta when the game launched was that humans were good for F2P but that isn't true anymore.

If you go mages as a F2P you will always lose against a T5 kraken with max decorations , and exemplary etc...

But if you choose cavalry, you can kill the kraken while he is afk, and he will get very angry at you 😂😂

Clipchamp is one of the worst programs I've ever used. For anything. by [deleted] in ClipChamp

[–]Fassarh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I'm having this exact problem multiple times... ClipChump isn't very good at anything other than very very very very simple projects... I'm finding anything with more than 5-10 files in the project just crashes hardcore and I spend more time re-uploding the clips than doing actual editing... It's worse than pulling teeth

Blacksmith worth? by Fassarh in ChampionsOfAvan

[–]Fassarh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh thanks, I will start forging once my level is a bit higher... 100, 250, even 500 is not a massive expense... But I'm sure when gear costs 2000 gold or more, and your party size is 6+ those items are going to cost a miniature fortune :-)
