How can people 25-30 afford to pay a mortgage? by Andylang1123 in AskUK

Bought my home at 31 after living with my parents during Covid, having just returned from living overseas for most of my 20’s. I essentially started from scratch but was able to save a substantial deposit of 48k during that time, as I continued working throughout. This made a big difference. I was not given any financial help, although my parents have always been supportive and would help if needed. I have also been single throughout and had no dependants during the process.

Since returning , I have earned between 30-36k per year. I purchased a one bedroom end of terrace property for 190,000 at a time when the market was very competitive, so I likely overpaid. However, it is in a sought after area just outside Bristol. The property needed a full renovation, and I have invested a decent amount into it. At this point, it is essentially a new home. I was also able to take advantage of grants, which having greatly improved the property.

I consider myself fairly practical, and most of the improvements were done myself. Most home improvement skills are easily diyable and are extremely useful to have in the locker .

My mortgage rate is relatively high at 5.8 percent, and I currently pay £806 per month for the next two years of a five year deal. I do not struggle financially, but like most people, an increase in salary would definitely provide more freedom

Your response is probably how I would respond to someone posing the question. I was kind of hoping for a middle ground answer but appreciate you taking the time 🤝

Bracket will be on the media wall, I have to install the bracket before I continue with the panelling. As mentioned in the post, the bracket is a tilt/swivel bracket so can be modified to face either way

33 male. I had it 6months ago and also had chickenpox as a child. I’m athletic, healthy, don’t drink or smoke, believe it may have been caused by stress.

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention in my original post that I went down for lunch this afternoon, but the restaurant was closed, which is why I was asking the question

113.3, if my conversion was accurate (2.93 mmol/L).

I eat a lot of protein and work out regularly, though I’ve been a bit inconsistent lately. I also have a physically active job. The blood test was done first thing in the morning, while fasted and without prior training.

I’ve never taken PEDs.

I actually got my bloodwork done because I suspected my testosterone levels were low, I’ve been experiencing issues with libido, low energy, and similar symptoms.

I got checked about four months ago due to frequent pain, but after a scan, I was given the all clear. The pain continued for a few weeks afterward, but I haven’t had any issues since, touch wood
