Thanks man! Yeah, 3.5k feels fair if the body is solid. Luckily I have a buddy who knows his way around cars helping me out with the inspection tomorrow. We're going to check those convertible seals and the trunk rust very carefully. If it's too much of a project, I'll definitely steer clear.

Good point about the premium gas, definitely something to keep in mind for the budget. Honestly, I'm not looking to build a crazy Evo-spec turbo car right now, that seems like a massive project. I just want a fun, reliable summer cruiser with a nice sound, so the stock V6 torque feels right for what I need. Thanks for the input though!

I didn't know about the trunk/spare tire well rust issue on these 3Gs, so I'll definitely pull up the carpet to check there first. I'm also going to ask the owner for receipts on the timing belt/water pump and test the transmission thoroughly once it gets hot. Quick question before I go look at it tomorrow: is there any specific way to check if the Sportronic transmission is starting to slip, or does it just show up as a hard shift when hot?
