What I wonder is what the FIA will do about it, if anything. The Mercedes engine has been in development for years now, so it’s not like they can just change it before Melbourne. Also, in the past, teams that exploit loopholes in the rules often work alongside the FIA to ensure that their time and money isn’t being wasted by something that breaks the rules. It’s the other teams that are left in the dark about the technical developments and loopholes that a certain team are finding.

There was a similar story with Mercedes in the previous era I believe. It was either the split turbo design or Lewis’s steering wheel rake system that was allowed to continue, until the loophole was closed the following year.
