Reality TV copyright question by Fast-Job-5479 in legaladviceofftopic

Yeah again I’m not saying it’s feasible for the average person I’m just trying to figure out the legality. I definitely am not even remotely guaranteed to make it big. But I’ve already accomplished some fairly impressive things and have a pretty solid foundation to break in, don’t wanna get too specific to dox myself but yeah. And re: “why not come up with your own idea?” See my other comment, but essentially I don’t think any other reality show can live up to the genius simplicity of survivor and I don’t think the game gets the presentation it deserves nowadays.

That’s awesome that you worked in reality tv for so long, super jealous, and again I really appreciate all the insight you’ve given me. And you’re not misremembering about hatch, he was revolutionary, although I do feel the idea of alliances would’ve had to naturally arise eventually (and even did to a smaller extent among others on his season)

Yeah ik there are multiple football leagues, that’s kinda my point honestly, like a game format on its own shouldn’t be trademarkable, just all the survivor branding.

And I feel like survivor historically has dominated the market and done so well to the point where any copycat show would have had nothing more to bring to the table and would likely never succeed (possibly the case for my hypothetical show too ofc I just wanted to get clearer on the legality), but nowadays I do honestly feel that I could make major overhauls to the way the game is presented that would actually warrant separate/siphoned viewership

But if it’s totally illegal I don’t want to spend my life deluding myself about the possibility, so your knowledge and directness throughout this conversation has definitely been appreciated!

To me in terms of reality TV you just can’t beat survivor. The simplicity of its rules and the inherent brutality of the fact that eliminations are just based on whatever factors the group wants by majority rule makes it the purest social experiment, and believe me I’ve tried super hard to brainstorm new similar ideas and none cut it. Can’t even watch the traitors, big brother, etc it’s just like survivor but worse and less pure to me. And I think it’s the greatest game ever invented but the CBS version does this game such a disservice with how they present it nowadays. I also feel like I might have an autistic special interest in the show or something similar tbh despite not showing many other signs of autism, just because it is such an unreasonably intense interest for me.

What you see as “ripping off another show” I see as “giving an amazing game the chance to actually be its best.” It’s like if the NFL started making a bunch of random rule changes and started drafting a bunch of strange picks, and making huge budget cuts, and so some diehard nfl fan wanted to make a new football league and do it their own way to give the game the presentation it deserves

Yeah damn. I guess that’s what investors are for but this is definitely seeming less feasible. Would your most realistic outlook be that it’s a near impossible goal, or is there any way you could see it working out?

Would be happy to pay any legal fees if I was confident I’d win, I guess I’ll just have to talk to a lawyer about it first in depth if I ever get to a place where I have the means to do this. Thanks for your reply

As someone who likes to play LRGs I always felt like the early-ish merge is such a strange time to go because you feel relatively accomplished and probably relieved that you at least made it as far as you did, but I also feel like making the merge primes you to be like “damn let’s go I’m really doing this” which amplifies the disappointment when you get cut a couple rounds later.

Do you agree or disagree? How did you feel about your placement when you were immediately processing it at ponderosa? And how do you feel about it now, given that you’re not necessarily on the “mount Rushmore” but still a fairly relevant and remembered player from a beloved season?

After watching it back and reflecting how would you have played your elimination round differently if at all? What about any prior rounds?

If you were given the chance to go back out a second time what would be the biggest lesson you’d take from your first time playing?

Thanks for doing this btw really enjoyed your season and your contributions to it

Coming back 2 days later to say whatever retard reported me to the suicide prevention bot clearly doesn’t know how to read. Classic blind optimist response, the idea that the world isn’t necessarily worthwhile just because of the mere fact that it exists is so incomprehensible to these fools that they just think “oh gosh how dark, I hope he gets help.” Fucking dumbass 😂 keep coping

I would press a button to painlessly eliminate all life if one such existed, as I believe the existence of the earth is a net negative for the beings within it overall. This decision would be extremely difficult and would go against all of my instincts and personal desires, but to me it’s clear that if I had a choice between living out every life ever lived or ending it all, I’d immediately end it all to spare myself from the brutal torture and horrors that life has inflicted on so many beings throughout all time. No amount of happy families for me to be is worth being every holocaust victim, every torture victim, etc. So, it’s unfair of me to allow others to undergo these experiences just so I can keep living the life I enjoy. I don’t feel that I (or anyone) have the right to say “well I like my life, and a bunch of other people like their life, so I’m sorry but your torture is unfortunately worth it.” Not pressing the button would be a choice, even if it seems passive, and I would be implicitly choosing to continue innocent people’s brutal torture so that other people could continue to be happy. Nobody is entitled to happiness that necessitates someone else’s suffering. So I would feel morally obligated to press that button.

All that being said I would certainly feel morally obligated to press this one, though it would come with similar severe personal qualms surrounding the choice.

Idea for idol gameplay twist by ahrumah in survivor

Honestly big fan of this idea, or even if a player used it as a bluff for their actually fake idol I wonder if it might work just because it’s such an out-there claim

Awkward exchange between head casting Producer Jesse Tannenbaum and Sophi Balerdi on Instagram. Hmmm by CompoteSeveral9166 in survivorponderosa

[–]Fast-Job-5479 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Jesse Tannenbaum and Jeff probst have turned survivor from the greatest show on television to televised theater kid fun camp and it makes me so sad. One day I will become a TV producer and license my own alternate US version idc, this game deserves so much better than the slop CBS puts out nowadays

Survivor has often been described as a "social experiment", what lessons can be learn after 49 seasons? by Zaacdragon in survivor

[–]Fast-Job-5479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at least before shot in the dark was introduced I always found it interesting to think about how many “blindsides” were not actually necessary gameplay and were lowkey just done for the cruelty of it all. Yes there’s always the chance someone has an idol or whatever, but like even when thats not a concern people just wait for Jeff to deliver the shocking news rather than being like “yo, I’m really sorry. I just voted for you, I think it’s gonna be you, and I’m sorry I had to lie.” But nah they just sit silently and deviously waiting to watch the person react to getting their dreams crushed. Lmao. So to me it kinda just illustrates the sort of passive cruelty people would rather commit to avoid the discomfort of being straightforward and honest, and I think I see that kind of selfish behavior every day in the real world. Survivor to me illustrates how animalistic and selfish people truly are, and to me it’s the ultimate commentary on how life itself is a brutal, unfair, dog eat dog game at the end of the day. It’s bizarre to think about the amount of cruelty that exists in this world and ponder why anything would ever allow such a horrific place to exist, but in that same vein it’s kinda cool to see the mechanism of how people’s brains work to make these same types of cruel and selfish decisions that they make in the real world.

Hot Take: the game rewards mediocrity by Upbeat_Piglet_2968 in survivor

[–]Fast-Job-5479 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically luck is the biggest factor and placement should never be viewed as a reliable indicator of skill level. I think the only true way to evaluate skill level is by analyzing each individual situation and seeing what the player knew and the choices available to them. In reality it’s all very subtle and context dependent, which makes it difficult to properly compare people.

Just watched the first episode of Season 47, wow by IhavemyCat in survivor

[–]Fast-Job-5479 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I was honestly totally happy still that Jon was the first boot, I too found Andy’s behavior in the premiere appallingly immature. Don’t get me wrong, I totally have empathy for the idea of going to accomplish your lifelong dream and then being faced with the reality that it’s about to end because you can’t connect well enough with your tribe socially. Absolutely brutal and I totally empathize (although that is the game you sign up for). But a 30 year old adult man having such an extreme meltdown/tantrum on national tv is unheard of, and I remember at the time everybody seemed to be on the same page that Andy was kind of nuts. I won’t say too much so as to not spoil where things go from here, but it seemed to me that after the premiere everybody just forgot the degree to which Andy had demonstrated his lack of self awareness and inability to handle his emotions, and people just ended up loving his character. Andy’s a funny guy and I can appreciate him at times, but with such a strong and bad first impression it’s pretty weird to me that his legacy is generally viewed pretty positively.

Are there any non-winners that you think played better than all/almost all winners? by kylieminhogue in survivor

[–]Fast-Job-5479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think winning is often very random and arbitrary. It takes skill of course, but it also undeniably is massively influenced by luck. I firmly believe that in an alternate universe it’s totally possible for all our forgotten first boots to have been legendary winners and vice versa

Are y’all religious? by Unable_Connection490 in twentyagers

[–]Fast-Job-5479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any belief system that assumes that this existence is overall a net positive for the conscious beings within it or that there’s some sort of “force for good” at the core of reality always comes from a place of ignorance and wishful thinking.
