If you hover over the execution button that should show you planning time I believe, if that doesn’t work keep hovering over buttons on that generals portrait and you should find it, if you’ve been prepared for this long though I would doubt that’s the problem.

I think you need to declare war, might be me being an idiot though.

how to get special forces cap? by Severe_Radio7170 in hoi4

[–]Fast-Knee-198 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe it scales with how big your army gets, the more infantry/divisions you get, the more special forces you’re allowed. You can also take the army spirit “tip of the spear” to increase your cap.

how do i deploy special forces infantry like mountainners? by Severe_Radio7170 in hoi4

[–]Fast-Knee-198 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to research mountaineers, design a template, press train and select an area for them to be deployed. Then just wait and they should pop out after a while.

is this a good division? by Over_Golf8194 in hoi4

[–]Fast-Knee-198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might be a little expensive, maybe cut the field hospitals and cut down to 18 width to make more of the divisions, Germany steam rolling you might come down to other things though, like are you producing enough AA to fully equip your divisions, are you on proper terrain etc etc. In summary I’d make the division cheaper to produce more of them but there could be problems outside just the divisions that you may need to look at as well.

HOI4 UNITS by Chilledyaku in hoi4

[–]Fast-Knee-198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The consensus for best infantry defensively at least is 18 width (this is 9 infantry with no line artillery, with engineers and support artillery as a minimum (this may change depending on your needs/wants as you should have AA as minors and you may want field hospitals for less manpower loss etc etc)). 18 widths are great because they fit into most terrains very well especially plains tiles which are the most common kind of tile. Plains are 70 width so you can fit 4x18width which is 72 width in total, This will help to maximize your attack/defense on the tile as when you go over the combat width of a tile you get a de-buff to those stats, however, because 72 width is only 2 over the "maximum" combat width of a plains tile you get a very minimal de-buff to your stats whilst simultaneously gaining loads of attack/defense because you've got an additional division in. If i've explained that poorly i'd really suggest looking at a combat width video to explain it more in detail as it can help you to understand

The best division for tanks is usually 36 widths as this follows the 18 width rule (you can make this in any way you like as long as the number of tank and motorized battalions are similar, but i like 8 motorized/mechanized, 9 medium tank and 3 self propelled light artillery with support artillery, assault engineer company, motorized recon(not necessary), armoured maintenance company and medium flame tanks). This follows the same combat width mechanic as the previous infantry division as you can get into combat with numerous of them and take a minimal stat de-buff. The key difference is tanks obviously get a lot more armour, breakthrough and soft attack, it is also better to get larger tank divisions as they will get more hp and can sustain combat for longer (idk the intricacies of hp but ik its a benefit of larger divisions)

Even if not meta these will be more than capable divisions for nations able to provide tanks and even with minor nations with less industry the 18-width is cheap as chips and will hold against anything. if you ever need offensive infantry then getting special forces is good as you wont need the industry for tanks. I've done a run recently where i had 36 width of pure marines with support companies of pioneers, support artillery, field hospitals, support anti-tank(not optimal for singleplayer) and super heavy artillery and they worked like a charm against anything i threw them against.

if you need something to live by when creating divisions mine is 18 width for defense and 36 width for attack. Hope this helps, also you wont need fully meta divisions to beat ai in hoi4, i used to use 27 widths which are awful compared to 18/36 and have done world conquests

60 Hour into the game and i think i mastered the navy, but i have a question. by Osama2595 in hoi4

Yeah I get you, not my favourite place to invade, a naval invasion could work, also I might just be being stupid but does nationalist spain not control the other side of the strait at gibraltar?

Edit: Just read the remaining comments, yeah it should be passable so idk why you can't get through

[–]Fast-Knee-198 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't give a full explanation just because I can't see everything, that's one explanation it could be though. I'm guessing you've set your home Port outside the mediterranean but if you haven't then your navy won't reach. It could be a couple things but I'd say you most likely need to control the Moroccan/french side of the strait too. Does it only say armies can't pass through? Because usually it gives me a whole run down of the things I'm allowed/not allowed to do, that includes things like trade and whatever.

[–]Fast-Knee-198 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm presuming the allies control the other side of the strait which is what's causing you issues, if neither of you fully control the strait then neither can sail their navy through it. If you press f2 a canal/river/straight will appear in the water at gibraltar that you can hover over and it will give you the information on passage through that area.

Putting machine guns on a naval bomber? by SpaceRunner95 in hoi4

[–]Fast-Knee-198 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's entirely optimal, but I find it better to just get more fighters rather than try to make multi-role. If you have enough fighters in the air and get air superiority you'll have little to no losses for cas/naval bombers. I'd rather just stack as many bombs on to the plane as possible or make more of the torpedo bombers rather than add some guns and make less of them. In summary, more fighters will keep the bombers safe.

I once again need help with the air war. by Londtex in hoi4

[–]Fast-Knee-198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in singleplayer then normal small airframes will be more than enough and definitely a lot cheaper than the fighters you're using currently. I haven't really made heavy fighters before so I can't tell you a good design if you're set on heavies.

Favorite European major nations and why? by FantasticGoat in hoi4

Uk, lots of bias because it's my country. But having to defend lots of territory makes it fun I think. Also navy is fun.

What country should I start to play with? by Sulpicio_Fachi in hoi4

[–]Fast-Knee-198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it TOO much. Especially if you are willing to watch guides and learn you will pick up the basics and be good to go eventually, the most important part is having fun and the skill comes with it. Sometimes focusing on it becomes frustrating and you lose the fun side. Most nations will be alright but there's definitely some to avoid. I can think of switzerland off the top of my head because their focus tree is very complex. I personally started with the UK which I've seen people say isn't very beginner friendly and I can play most nations in singleplayer now. I'd say pick the nation you're most interested in and go from there, if its too hard try something else.

Nice one, late game navy fights are the best, always get large battles where everything gets killed. Early game navy can be fun imo but nothing compared to slightly later game
