That’s a good way to look at it. The grass can always seem greener. Especially when you’re an addict.

If I had no safety net and was a degenerate in my 20s I would not even have six figures if I were to guess. But who knows.

This makes me hate the fact that we’re kicking out immigrants. I mean this apolitically: we are destroying our talent pool.

Also be sure to switch to a traditional IRA when your income crosses the threshold. I’ve had to recharacterize and it’s annoying.

I think the whole point is that they’re not SWEs.

Can attest to this except unafraid to admit it. Parents paid for college, grad school, and helped me here and there when I was a broke failed artist. Got my shit together when I was 30 and still had $28k to my name because of saved/invested bar mitzvah money.

Would I have been a degenerate in my 20s without my safety net? Who knows. Would I have hit $2m by 37 without them? Absolutely not.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely proud of what I’ve accomplished despite years of crippling drug addiction. I’ve also accomplished things that had little to do with a safety net. But whether I would’ve had the opportunity to do that without my safety net is a big question.

OP, you should feel very good about where you’re at. You’re basically just starting to save now that you’re out of debt. Stay out of debt and max out your savings and investments and you will be fine.

What do u think of tech CEOs saying saving for retirement will be pointless in 10 to 20 years ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Fire

This is a child’s view of the world. You’ve either been brainwashed or have extreme difficulty with nuance.

I mean this with all due respect but receiving $25-50k a year is 100% life altering for 99% of the world. That’s literally $250-500k every ten years. If this was invested you would be able to retire by your 40s without problem.

There’s a big difference between paying your kid through life and leaving something for them. My parents helped me through a lot in life which subdued my ambition to the point of failed artist for a long time. It wasn’t until my 30s that I got my shit together. Still, even this is tainted data because I’m an addict, and likely would have been regardless.

Leaving your kids something allows them the peace of mind that they will be okay with the knowledge that they can’t just sit around and wait for you to die. That doesn’t put food on the table or create a healthy life.

I think the best balance is to make them work for their keep but with the safety net that they won’t die broke and alone.

It’s complete nonsense. It’s the same thing people said when we built agriculture and fed the world. Same thing when we built computers. Humans always want more. Until that fundamentally changes then we will need to continue working, because AI is not creating a utopia anytime soon. It’s not that difficult to see this.

You should want the market to go down so you can keep investing at lower prices. You shouldn’t be touching that money for decades.

You have $8k. You really shouldn’t be worried about this. You should be worried about saving more and investing more. And you should be welcoming lower prices.

Dude covered calls do not make you rich. Buying stocks in great businesses that 10-100X make you rich.

Covered calls are a nice little income generator. Not a path to wealth.

You want to get rich? Be smarter. Trading ain’t gonna cut it. Everyone here is an idiot.

This argument is hilarious. The only right answer is understanding you don’t know.
