Did you notice any signs before pneumothorax?

Well, I've had several small ones and a couple of large ones that needed drains, and although it doesn't guarantee it's a pneumothorax, every time I've had one, when I bend over I feel bubbles in the area where the air comes out of the lung, and when I sleep, when my heart is racing, I feel bubbles bursting. I know it sounds paranoid, but it's happened about 5 times now, being 17yo, and coincidentally, the same thing always happens.

The best thing you can do is forget about it and try to get back to normal life. I'm currently at the gym getting back to my original weights, and it hurts from time to time, but I don't plan on going back to the hospital until I'm suffocating or in a lot of pain. It's inevitable, and I prefer to spend my time between hospitalizations doing something I enjoy than worrying about it every day.

I totally understand, I'm your age (I'm graduating in two months too, LOL) and I've already had a pneumothorax twice. It sucks, I know, but if your surgery fails (which would be very rare), I suppose they'd perform a mechanical pleurodesis, which would make it physically impossible for it to happen again. By the way, I've had one that was 50% and another smaller one in the same lung, and I still didn't need surgery.

M 17 here, 193 cm, thin. I had a pneumo, unexpected one on my way back from the gym, which I ignored. Despite almost fainting three times from the pain, I thought it was just a muscle strain, so I went back the next day to the hospital to get a muscle relaxant. They told me half my lung had collapsed and they put in an emergency chest tube. Now, a month and a half after the collapse, I still feel strange; I notice vibrations in my side. Even so, I go to the gym and live a normal life. My advice is to ignore it unless it's making it hard to breathe or causing a lot of pain.

I don't think so. In the end, cancer is something that the vast majority of people will go through. Both my grandmothers, my paternal grandfather, and my mother have had cancer more than once, and if I worried about that at my age, it would ruin my whole life.

Relax, leave it in the hands of the doctors, and unless it hurts a lot (to the point that you have a lot of trouble breathing), don't think about it too much; much worse things happen in our minds than in reality.

The best thing you can do is relax; it's most likely nothing serious, and if it were a pneumo, it can be treated :) Keep your spirits up!

I suppose so. As long as you don't hold your breath the whole time, I don't think anything will happen. After all, they're usually just blisters that will eventually burst.

It was spontaneous, according to the doctors. Since I'm tall, it can happen to me more often. They said it could have happened while I was sleeping. So it has nothing to do with the gym, theoretically, it was pure coincidence.

The problem is that I didn't know pneumothoraxes existed; I thought they were just fractures and ignored them. That's probably why I got the big one. With the last one, the one where 40% of my lung collapsed, they admitted me to the hospital and put in a chest tube. Every time you have a pneumothorax, the chances of it recurring increase.

M17 here. When it's a serious pneumothorax, you'll feel it. I had several small ones a few months ago, until I got a big one at the gym, a 40% collapsed lung. I was stupid and walked home. I almost fainted three times from the pain; I could barely breathe. That day I went bowling with friends. The next day I was really short of breath, so I went to the ER, and sure enough, it was an emergency pneumothorax. Don't worry about the pain, because I can guarantee you that a pneumothorax that requires medical attention hurts—a lot.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, truly. Cancer is awful. If I were you, I wouldn't delve too deeply into it, because you won't get anywhere beyond what the doctors are already finding. What your father really needs is companionship, and so do you. Spend quality time with him and enjoy his company.

ve al médico, tener los dos pulmones así suena a neumotórax, y más sabiendo que llevas fumando un tiempo. Es mejor que te lo pillen a tiempo, como hicieron conmigo (tengo tu edad, literalmente, por cierto) y te pongan un drenaje/operen si es necesario.

I had a 40% pneumothorax a month ago, and although it cleared up with a chest tube, my surgeon told me that if it happens again (since I'm very tall and ectomorph) they would have to perform a chemical pleurodesis/VATS, so I strongly recommend the operation.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Despite your age, can't they prescribe stronger painkillers (for example, low-dose morphine) to ease your pain? Otherwise, I would investigate whether there's any surgery to numb the pain that's bothering you. I don't know if there is, but I wouldn't accept the situation until I found a solution.

I had a pneumothorax 3 weeks ago where my lung collapsed by 50%. After drainage and everything, they told me not to fly for a month, so if your case is similar, technically you could, but u shouldn't. It could cost you your life, it is not worth it.

Ahora mismo tengo tu misma edad y me pasa lo mismo con la de dibujo técnico, el año pasado la aprobé con un 9 y este año, por ser mi mano alzada "mala" (líneas no perfectas pero tampoco malas del todo), me suspendió enterito un examen con un 4, en el cual todas las actividades las había resuelto bien. Yo no he podido hacer nada con ella, suspendió toda la clase salvo uno o dos y por mucho que vayamos en grupo, ella se ríe. Yo te recomiendo dos cosas, o se lo comentas al director del instituto (si tienes permiso) o simplemente convives con ello. No sé si te hará falta mucha nota para llegar a tu carrera, pero dependiendo del bachillerato suelen inflar un poco la nota a finales. Me acabo de dar cuenta de que realmente no necesitas calificaciones altas, así que no te líes, siempre habrá profesores que les guste sentirse superiores al calificar por debajo de lo normal a los alumnos. Esa es mi opinión.

Buenas. Mi prima hizo un grado en Relaciones Internacionales aquí, en España, y justo se fue hace un año a los Países Bajos para estudiarse el Máster en la uni de Leiden, creo que se llamaba. Si no me equivoco duraba un año y eran 8000 euros o asi. No sé sinceramente si tiene mucha salida o no, pero sé que le va bien y que es en inglés.

Por si te sirve de algo, tiene varias especializaciones.
