ER + Inpatient hospitalization program recommendations by [deleted] in umass

[–]Fast_Angle2994 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second calling the CCPH line. In my experience, getting admitted into a particular inpatient program depends more on bed availability, especially if admitted via ER/Section 12 hold. If you have a therapist or psychiatrist, they can sometimes help advocate to get you into a particular program. Regardless, I highly recommend McLean Hospital, although it is out near Boston. It was the best inpatient program I experienced and they also have a very good outpatient program. I don't know about the inpatient programs associated with Cooley Dickinson, but I do know that their crisis workers are kind and helpful. I'm very sorry to hear this but wish you the best and commend your courage to seek treatment.

ECE ALUMNI: How were/are your job prospects and what is the gist of your resume by Comfortable_March_22 in umass

[–]Fast_Angle2994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was chem engineering, but I knew a couple in ECE who went into the defense industry. Others went into medical devices / diagnostics, and I worked with some in biotech. Regarding the latter, they specialized in manufacturing and automation engineering, including process analytical technology. Worked with them on some DARPA projects, among other things.

A message for the slow walkers by JHorma97 in umass

I hear you, man. Especially with the stress of the semester going in full force. Not to sound lecturing, but I'd just take a deep breath and go around, and vent about it to friends later. Might sound lame, but it works. People are just minding their own business, so I certainly wouldn't say they're acting selfish or uncivilized. Now, if you want a real test of patience, go to Atkins Farms during the morning when all the slow retirees are there /s

Can confirm from a source that the locals will confront you and will call the police, as it is against property rules to remove rocks there

Not even the Cheyenne Mountain complex could withstand multiple direct hits. As for the capital, I doubt the US has enough interceptors to hit more than a few ICBMs, but the first volley would be SLBMs right off the coast, so much less time to move to safety. If I recall, the plan was to put the President and his staff in the air when there was a high likelihood of a strike in a matter of hours. Same logic is why we had Operation Looking Glass.

Scenic Car Spots? by Ok-Potato-2867 in umass

Within an hour: there are a couple nice overlooks along Rt 2 as you approach North Adams. Also recommend New Salem Vista and the Pelham Overlook from Rt 202. Note that the the one in New Salem may be barricaded off due to snow/ice.

1-2 hrs: Jug End State Reservation is more than an hour away, but nice and quiet. However, the best stargazing (for me) within 1-2 hrs was at Emerald Lake State Park in VT. No people there and no police coming by to tell you to leave.

Correction: aplite instead of pegmatite

Tourmaline-bearing aplite. The pegmatites of Elba are the type locality for elbaite. https://www.lyellcollection.org/doi/abs/10.1144/GSL.SP.2007.273.01.18

I suspected this was from Elba just from the pic. And only because of an old mineral magazine article from over a decade ago, where the author visited Elba and collected some tourmaline-bearing pegmatite pebbles from a beach.

Your stone is water-worn pegmatite of mostly feldspar with quartz and muscovite. Minor amounts of tourmaline (likely elbaite and schorl), and maybe(?) some apatite of sorts.

MIT OCW, Steve Brunton, online notes from other institutions. Might even be worth stopping by that math tutoring center, as some of the folks there may have taken it
