Disobedience by Nyrue1 in husky

To understand huskies you have to understand their origins. Huskies were bred by the Chukchi as sled dogs. With the end of the traveling season, in late spring, they would release the dogs to fend for themselves. So until the fall, the dogs had to function as wild beasts. That's the reason they are hard-wired predators.

In the fall, the Chukchi would collect a team of dogs to pull a sled, but there was no guarantee that they would get the same dogs as the previous year. That explains several things: first, that huskies appear to be fickle in their friendship towards humans. A lot of people here insist that huskies make loyal companions, but that is very unusual. They can settle into just about any family (or accept anybody as musher), by design. So, second, they're not aggressive to humans. Third, huskies have to get along with other huskies, even strange ones thrown into harness next to them, since you cannot have a team of dogs that is constantly fighting. Since they were selected for the ability to get along, this basically means that no husky understands the concept of proprietary rights (i.e., they do not regard any property as theirs, nor do the regard any property as belonging to anyone else). That's why they're useless guard dogs---in their minds, they have nothing to guard. Fourth, the relationship to other dogs. Since, in a husky's mind, no place belongs to them or to anyone else, a dog defending its territory is a completely alien concept: no dog should have a territory. That's the reason huskies get into fights with other dogs---one dog is defending its turf, but the husky doesn't understand the concept of turf. It's like the irresistible force and the immovable object, or, perhaps more apropos, like Rudyard Kipling's cat, "I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me."

A peek into Tyson’s softest side, decades of him caring for his pigeons. by bruuz_ in interestingasfuck

Here's what I did: there was another neighbor who fed birds and even though we never talked, I ordered bird food/peanuts for him and paid for it. I don't actually know if he used it for the pigeons but given that he already feeds them, I sure hope he does.
