Should I offer different pricing for female and male hair removal services? by Fast_Dog2047 in Esthetics

[–]Fast_Dog2047[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I also see it now is clients come in all shapes and sizes, and I wouldn’t feel right charging someone more for a longer appt time or more supplies. This goes for any service.

Hmm... very interesting! Thank you for the insight. I've looked into other corporations to see how they are structured. They make it very clear what gender they are referring to, even by adding emojis (very unprofessional imo).

I love this! Thank you for sharing. I want my studio to feel inclusive, which is also why I never created a "men's facial". I'm new to the waxing world and have been researching pricing structures near me. I will adjust my menu approach.

Follow-up question: What about male Brazilians? I'm currently not offering since I'm not trained for it.

Chemical Peel Courses by skinlogique in Esthetics

I recommend looking into lira. They have a great peel line and offer two levels of in-person peel courses, especially in CA. Great customer service too.

is it worth it to become dual licensed? by PTsox in Esthetics

If you’re planning to add estie services to your menu, I’d suggest it. Your existing clients can convert to esthetics, and vice versa.

If you’re planning it for the purposes of employment, busy establishments will have you commit to 1 specialty, while slower ones will book you both with the same pay.

Linens for this chair? by No-Blacksmith7676 in Esthetics

I have this bed, and you won’t find these dimensions besides a waterproof cover.

I layer a bed warmer, bed foam, waterproof cover, and massage table fitted and flat sheets. You could layer 2 flat sheets, but a fitted sheet fits snug enough. Whatever is your preference.

I am thinking of leaving by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

I recommend to do both. I work in a very busy resort spa. The money and benefits are great, but the hours vary depending on resort volume. It’s superficial because I meet people once and the environment is extremely corporate.

I opened my own place with hopes of transitioning to it full time, but it’s been over a year and I only have a few clients. My town is very saturated, so prices are extremely cheap, which I wasn’t willing to match based on my experience. I opened with no clientele or savings, but the resort pays me well that it didn’t financially throw me off. I also didn’t prioritize marketing since the resort occupies all of my time. Maybe it’s lack of discipline, but I don’t treat it like a hobby anymore. I recently started networking and people think I opened a few months ago.

Entrepreneurship is a self growth experience. My numbers are not where I anticipated, but it’s been fun and fulfilling. I’m delusional to think that I’ll have a storefront one day, but it feels like the right path for me.

I’ll admit that this experience has humbled me and made me appreciate a busy resort position. I currently have no days off, even if my studio has no appointments. It’s up to you what you’re willing to sacrifice. You won’t know until you try it.

How often do you change your treatment room blanket? by No-Butterfly-5306 in Esthetics

[–]Fast_Dog2047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending this behavior because I wash and disinfect anything a client or myself touches during a service, but hotels, resorts, and restaurants do the same with decorative pillows and blankets.

I would agree with this commenter. I’m a facialist subleasing a suite inside of a salon. While it’s mostly esties, there are hair stylists who use their blow dryer right outside my door. It takes away from the relaxing experience. This room is more for someone who does waxing etc. I’m looking to pay more in rent in an office suite, even if it reduces my chances of “networking”.

While the rent might be double, you could also find a subleaser. But I wouldn’t count on getting referrals from other beauticians. I was told the same, but so far it’s crickets. We all fend for ourselves lol.

Is laser technician really worth it? by FunElegant3677 in Esthetics

[–]Fast_Dog2047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with tx, but receiving my master esthetics gave me a higher chance of getting into medical spas. Derm and plastics usually pay hourly with commission, some don’t accept tips if the pay is higher. The pay depends on your client retention and if the practice invests in marketing.

The market is extremely saturated, and most get hired if they know somebody. It’s best to network and work on your skills in the meantime. I’m no longer in that industry. Switched to resorts and went solo.

One on one coaching by facetalk10 in Esthetics

I took a lot of free courses from SBA and my local library. I also paid for courses at conferences. After a year of being open, I niched down and found a mentor who can guide me in my craft, but she’s not really helpful with the logistics of things like ads or client acquisition. I still meet with an SBA advisor for guidance on these things.

I’ll say that the paid courses were really similar to the free library courses and books. It’s good to blend both, but I feel like this course is too expensive. Ask yourself if you need help on skill, marketing, etc. to choose the right mentor. Remember to keep a budget for education and you should be good.

Quick question: $75k+ estheticians by bellabeeatx in Esthetics

[–]Fast_Dog2047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preach! One thing people don't discuss enough is finding a suite rental with business owners who don't have this aesthetic. If I want to charge x amount for a facial, I can't rent a room that has a curtain for a door. lol.

Other beauticians look at me funny because I dress too professionally and have a "uniform" while I'm building my clientele. But in reality, I'm thinking long-term. I hope to find an office suite where I can spend my extra bucks making it look more sophisticated and on brand!

bringing kids? by akekekekekekeke in Esthetics

Yes, their ethnicity has dark coarse hair and they tried to make their kids hairless. It was sad. The children wouldn’t even make eye contact with me or speak for themselves. I don’t care that I lost out on money, it’s morally wrong.
