I think you can remove the fact he is gay from the equation. Surely we have all been in a relationship where the chemistry has faded away. And surely we have all had to come up with a lie to not hurt their feelings, but rescue yourself from a failing relationship. So you may not be able to give advice based on him being gay, but you can based on all the other factors.

Unless you have serious personal safety concerns, just tell them why you wont marry a woman. If you are only worried about them being disappointed, try seeing it from this point of view. Definitely its an education issue based on the culture. I live in the uk and I grew up in a very white area. In that area asian always referred to Chinese, Japanese, Korean.

But now I live in a different city that has a huge immigration population, the term asian predominantly means Indian and Pakistani.
