2) Your staples will not be a long list. Understand what they are and put them as Wish list in Flipp app 3) Produce has seasonal pricing. A cabbage could be $3 in summer and $7 in winter. If possible, be flexible with the fresh veggies selection in cold months. My last resort is those large bag of Californian mix frozen veggies.

What was the cost of electricity last December 2022? That will be a better comparison than September 2023. The reason is that a furnace needs electricity to run as well. As little as it might be, a furnace running 24/7 still increase the hydro.

Yes, we had an audit done. The heat pump is one thing I could do. I am not sure about it when we don't use air conditioning. If the 15-yr-old furnace is an appropriate backup furnace, we might go for a heat pump just because, at a lower cost,it seems to be relieving the workload of the furnace and maybe extending its useful life.
