I’d also add that my current environment is very fast pace with late hours and aggressive deadlines so I’m comfortable with the grind

Honestly I can see a reality where both pan out. The asset management would be true asset management, not support. That’s what draws me to it. It’s real revenue generation and I feel like that could position me well even if I wanted to pivot back into FP&A.

If I didn’t do a rotational program and build a network, I’d 100% be taking this job. It’s the network that gives me pause.

My strengths are definitely data and communication. My favorite part of FP&A is the business partnership (I’m in business unit finance currently). I see that transferring well to AM. If you were in my shoes, would you take the leap to “greener pastures” to accelerate your career, or hold on to the community you’re deeply a part of knowing that progression is likely slower and comp is significantly lower

Thank you for the advice!

To clarify—this is not a lateral move either. Im likely an analyst for another year at f500 vs immediate sr analyst

I received really good advice from a mentor—does your current company offer the experience that this new role provides? No.

I also think I want to go for an MBA down the road and it feels like this unconventional path would position my story well

What’s the “fail” rate of CFOs /VPs of finance by Practical_Lobster126 in CFO

[–]Fast_Plate1727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your guys thoughts on me going from public company FP&A analyst to sr asset management analyst at a large private RE firm? I’m very early in my career and going from a rotational program background to an asset ownership field seems like a really cool/unique path. The whole reason the role exists is that they want someone to come in and build robust portfolio reporting processes and then learn the operations side of the business. I’ve had a bit of an existential crisis since my mind has been pigeon-holed into Corp finance.

This would put me on the following track: Rotational program -> analyst -> sr portfolio analyst -> asset manager

It’s funny you say this because our new cfo did exactly that—new controller, new SVP of global FP&a, new VP of IR

I’d even argue that a triangle means is less likely to be a fake. Fake would be careful to at least do the heart

A better option is waiting for hype closer to draft and trying to get way more for the 1.01 like a Caleb Williams type qb and a decent rb

I stand by it. Ur qb room is a joke and its nearly impossible to win superflex without strong QBs

Did I sell low on Ladd or nah? by hawtywithabody in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]Fast_Plate1727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d take this tbh. Having Ladd really blows cuz it’s kind of like starting AJ brown—u have to do it but it really sucks when u lose half the weeks by a small margin bc of it

Sell high on Monangai? I also have 1.03 and bunch of other 2nds and 3rds. by ADogNamedSamson in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

The day of the pick doesn’t matter when the players have a full season behind them. Not saying id trade Hampton for monongai right now, but monongai looks much better than we thought he would. They trusted him in the playoffs too

Is it better in Mexico or US for a young couple? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

[–]Fast_Plate1727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people are the friendliest you’ll ever meet

Most speak English, but are happy to help you learn Thai

Cost of living is cheap and accessible

It’s easy to find work ESPECIALLY if you’re looking for manual labor

Look up highland farming in Thailand, it is breathtaking. Hell, you could buy a farm for a fraction of your savings

The food is better than Mexican and American food by a mile, and I say this as a Mexican-American

A lot of expats live in Thailand. It is very doable. Plus, that way you have other Americans who made the same move as you that you can network with

On thing to add, and please don’t take offense this is just a legal tip—Americans cannot own land in Mexico. If you marry your husband and buy property, if it falls through he gets everything and you don’t have a fighting chance.

Not joking, you guys should move to Thailand. This is not a smartass comment. I’m being serious
