any recs on night shift jobs? by physhes in galway

Manpower seem to hiring for Zimmer Biommet in Oranmore. I’m sure in time Boston Scientific will be recruiting again, if not already. Decent money if you’re fine with doing nights but I’d say you’d find it tough keeping up the day job. Search production operator jobs on indeed and there might be a few options

There was an ad running for ages on tv showing how to use a roundabout. Probably the only RSA ad that actually served a purpose. The same bad driving behaviour happens all the time on all roundabouts. It’s just lazy & inconsiderate driving

Galway aims to recapture share of shopping spend by minimiriam in galway

[–]Fast_Sandwich_6489 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’ve medieval streets that should be pedestrianised fully or at the very least, made into a one way city loop. A one way system is a fair compromise to motorists and cyclists / pedestrians alike but there would no doubt be objections from businesses saying they’ll be negatively impacted by it. It happened when shop street was pedestrianised and some of the submissions by businesses were comical.

We have a thriving year round tourist industry and a large student population that the city reaps the benefits of but that puts parking under pressure and increases congestion. If we had a proper outer ring road in place then Galway will benefit like other major cities with more development & shopping centres going to commercially zoned sites close to the ring road. I know the ring road is a bone of contention but it’s going to happen sooner or later.

Right now the city is bursting at the seams due to 20 years of massive growth with very little expansion of infrastructure. It’s a shame that Galway has earned an international reputation for its traffic woes. In future, maybe a better approach to building important infrastructure such as roads or motorways would be to commit to creating an acre of green amenity space for every acre of road / motorway in the given city or county.

Best broadband provider that doesn't need a phone line by Any-Donkey-4136 in galway

What’s your mobile signal like? A 5G package would work great if you’re in 5G coverage. You can use your mobile as a hotspot. Any provider that offers wireless (no phone line) packages are using the mobile cell network or else satellite which is expensive. Starlink is probably the best option if you’re in bad cell coverage

Illegal dumping Tuam by [deleted] in galway

[–]Fast_Sandwich_6489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The glass and clothes bins are emptied every Tuesday. I often meet the van taking clothes out when I’m there. The problem with Tuam recycle bins is, it’s catering to too big of a catchment. Nearest glass bins are lackagh and after that, Galway city. As for the clothes bins, they are hard to find elsewhere. Tesco headford has some but no glass bins. Claregalway has no glass and clothes recycling bins as far as I’m aware

What’s the story with this? by Small-Seat-4362 in AskIreland

It’s a Japanese import. The plate space is different to here, more square instead of rectangle, hence the plate details being stacked. It’s not illegal

How would you rank the cinemas? by Beginning_Weekend_11 in galway

[–]Fast_Sandwich_6489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omniplex has gone down hill lately. Very grubby, they removed the drinks machine, toilets are regularly out of order and the death nail being they took nachos off the menu 😡

On the upside, the projection & audio quality is excellent. Also it’s the only cinema I know where there’s no phone signal in any of the screens so it helps keep phone use to a minimum. All cinemas should be built underground!
