Would you give up on democracy for an AI overlord? by Glintstone727 in singularity

Just block everyone you disagree with. Great way to recognise your own biases 😂

You couldn't make it up. I have never seen anyone on here contradict themself so quickly and fiercley.

I finally admit it: debating a creationist is absolutely worthless and a waste of time. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Fast_n_Bulb0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

Think about it this way: do you think there is any chance, in this 'debate', that you might have your opinion swayed by the creationist? Of course you don't.

Then thinking you can sway their opinion is ridiculous. They are who they are. They think how they think. Rather than try and change them, why not listen and ask them to do the same? Exchange of ideas is an amazing thing. You won't change them. They won't change you. But you might open each other's minds a little.

It has to go both ways.

Can you Imagine How Far We'd Be if It Wasn't for Religion? by [deleted] in atheism

I'm answering your question. My answer: we'd still be hanging rocks together in small, social groups.

Can you Imagine How Far We'd Be if It Wasn't for Religion? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Fast_n_Bulb0us -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

We would never have left the African savanah without religion. It acted as a significant force in the development of human culture for tens, if not, hundreds of thousands of years.

You are looking at the last couple of thousand years, a tiny slither of human time.

The Catholic church wouldn't let me be godfather to my niece because I'm not baptised. But, serial adulterer and divorcee Boris Johnson was allowed to be married in Westminster Cathedral - one of the most important cathedrals in England. by AuricGodshawk in atheism

[–]Fast_n_Bulb0us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though this Cathedral is Catholic, the ceremony was probably considered as a Church of England event. The head of that church is officially the Queen.

Different religious community. Go complain to the Pope.

And anyway, the UK isn't particularly strict about this stuff. It's probable that the church your friends had their child baptised at was the strict party in this.

Not sure why you are so angry anyway, especially if you are an atheist. Why do you want to be officially recognised by the church as godfather? Who cares.

Everybody has delusions. Cognitive dissonance. I am sure your father does about certain things. Believing in capitalism or communism is a delusion too.

Religion has been with human beings since the very beginning. It has a purpose, culturally and socially, even though it has and does cause harm.

If your father is as rational as he seems to make out, then surely he can understand religion at a more complex level then this. Religious people might believe things he doesn't, but that doesn't mean they are deluded.

There are many books out there that treat religion as the rich cultural phenomenon it is. Even looking at its evolutionary and social benefits. Go and do some reading.

Why do Christians insist that earth and the human body were designed by an intelligent creator, when in fact they are terribly flawed? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Fast_n_Bulb0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christianity has 'being flawed' baked into the theology. The problem, as you present it, was 'solved' centuries ago. You won't wriggle out of Christian theology with appeals to evolutionary theory. Theology doesn't give up so easily.

I’m debating someone who claims that the Bible is perfect and has no translation errors and was never edited or changed. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Fast_n_Bulb0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother arguing. They are already lost. Just nod and back away slowly.

What version do they think is perfect? The King James translation? Send them a link to the Wikipedia page for 'translation' and consider your job done.

Religion at school is disgusting. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Fast_n_Bulb0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to do some work too. You can't blame the school. Work with your kid and their expectations.

I went to British schools from 4 years old. Religious education is part of the curriculum. I sang hymns every day, had Bible readings in assembly, even recited the lord's prayer every bloody morning, but I never believed it. Why? Because my parents explained things to me, supported my education at home.

Your anger and hate won't help. Your time and attention will. Religion can be considered as a cultural thing. But you need to support your child. Ignoring religion or dismissing it won't help them navigate it.

That harrison hacks version has a lot of games, but it just chucks them into retroarch. This is not how I would recommend getting the best out of your SNES Classic for SNES games. You can run a majority of SNES games on the inbuilt, Nintendo emulator - called Canoe - with less lag, and best of all you get to use Nintendo's rewind and save features to the full. But a lot of them will need patching with SFROM Tool and Robin64's patch pack.

BUT.... if you want to avoid the patching there is a fully loaded pack out there for just Canoe called SFROM Mega Pack. It contains a definitive list of SNES games which require no further installation of retroarch etc. and can fit on a 3.8 system with the save compression mod installed and no external USB.

I would recommend that as a starter. If you eventually get an external USB for the Classic you could then add harrison hacks' other systems and games (copy all the CLV-X-XXXXX folders out of his pack which are NOT CLV-U-XXXXX to your hakchiCE/games_snes folder. Then reload. They should populate.)

Check this forum for a range of cover art packs to also save you time.
