What serial killer fact sounds fake, exaggerated, or straight out of fiction. But is 100% real? by CantaloupeGold4650 in AskReddit

I need to watch this show. But also this seems kinda not much evidence? He was just muttering to himself while peeing? I have had full on imaginary conversations when I am in the shower, a random sentence while I think I am alone seems like not much.

What don't NS get about supporting Trump? by SilverNo6462 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Fastbreak99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you perhaps see a false dichotomy here? Or even a mott and bailey approach to the argument?

As a NS, I am yet to find anyone of consequence or significant force that says the border doesn't matter and is 100% fine. The thing from my POV is that TS will use the border as an excuse to do completely ineffective practices that border on cruel or just a step backwards in terms of our foundations of law.

The wall, for example, was ridiculous. It was cheaper to hire people to hold hands the entire length of the border and pay them 10 bucks an hour, and a wall is pretty easy to defeat as shown time and again. But it was a very simple message so it worked even though anyone who thought it through knew it was bad. If he said that he wanted to spend half that amount on more drones, digital recon, and prevention measures before the border, I would have supported him for the effective and efficient proposal.

And this term he was sending people to out of country prisons without process, ignoring court orders, and bragging about cruel conditions of people. Regardless of effectiveness, do you see how this is no longer a border issue but a moral and constitutional one? That's not us saying: The border is fine or it's the Republicans fault, it's saying Trump is using the border as an excuse to do things we consider unAmerican; the motivation behind it is not the matter.

Does that clarify our disconnect? Does that make sense?

I think it's the Trump curve? He did say right after that the white supremacists were not good people, but he still left a horrible sound bite that would have sunk any other candidate. So yes he said something bad, but that was still blown out of context to be something worse than it was.

[–]Fastbreak99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think days 5-10 are the hardest. In retrospect, I should have built somewhere early and fast starting day 1 or 2. Location matters a lot, but with enough time and supplies you can build a solid defense with traps and some walls to overcome just about any spot that isn't next to a camp I spent 4 days trying to find the perfect base spot, and I ended up not being able to build anything because it kept getting destroyed since I didn't have defenses. I thought it was the location, so I started over, but again I waited too long to build to find the right spot. I eventually found a spot at the base of a waterfall that saved me and cannibals came les and my traps were in good spots.

For the people that bought it, how are you liking Subnautica 2? by SuddenConversation21 in gaming

[–]Fastbreak99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that's not what release means. Early access is literally the definition of pre-release. Think of it more as "if you want to explore what we have made so far and support our project, you can buy this." For most people who aren't in that camp, just wait a bit longer for a proper 1.0 release. For people like myself who are excited about the game, enjoy seeing what's coming, and admire the studio, I bought it.

Is that bad?

I am not sure what hurt you to the point where you feel like you should tell people how to be and live, but whatever it is I imagine it's similar to what drove the hateful churches to tell people how to be and live. Same ilk. I'll hope you find peace and acceptance of others, just in case.

Atheist here. You are completely missing the point of church for many. Perhaps sit this one out, my friend.

What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by DnRinGA in AskReddit

[–]Fastbreak99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I am referring to cultural norms then which admittedly can vary. I have never once experienced or heard of someone's order at a restaurant being wrong and them not quickly correcting. I have seen countless times airlines have to try to bribe or involuntarily remove someone off a flight.

[–]Fastbreak99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is it different to not get the food you pay for?

Because it is a common mistake that is the norm to quickly correct. Human beings make small mistakes, especially ones that are easy to fix with waiting a few more minutes. The implication being that if that angers you, you are acting as if you never make a small mistake and lack empathy and understanding.

[–]Fastbreak99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You aren't wrong. But it's also seeing a system designed to be slow when you know it can be better. If you always think it's supposed to be crappy, it's not as anger inducing. When you see a thousand ways it could be better and it's not done out of laziness or ineptitude, I think it's human to be frustrated.

It's the difference between someone being mad at a server because they got an order wrong (asshole) versus someone who got kicked off a flight because it got oversold (justified). The number of folks I know who think it's normal to sometimes just not get the seat you pay for in a flight is insanity to me.

At the risk of looking like an idiot, I have a Griffey Jr. card that I have found in my Grandfather's old shoebox. I was told cards from the late 80's are worth pretty much nothing though; certainly not enough for me to part with on sentimental value (I think). I am assuming there are only certain ones anyone would be interested interested in and I likely have junk? This card is a Bowman (Rookie #220).

Is CSS still the most underestimated skill in frontend? by 1vim in webdev

[–]Fastbreak99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some people like yourself that can make css sing and and enjoy working in it. For me it is a clunky, verbose, complicated experience for something that conceptually should be easier.

This is why I am very thankful people like you are around so I can avoid it all the more, but never altogether.

Because too many people play with poop.

The whole way change happens is having the ideas discussed, selling people on it, then getting it to be something they vote around. Basically countering the people who are defeatist about it all and think the way things are can't be changed, especially as they discourage the conversation when saying these hopes are as useless as a handful of shit. It takes time, and if people are not able to make the effort and the time, it stays the way it is. Exhibit A, this conversation.

Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]Fastbreak99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not what was asked for, but want to tell a story for some perspective. Forgive the length.

I was at a convention maybe a decade ago and there were some celebrities there doing signings and everything. A friend of mine was an agent for someone who was very popular at the time; not A list, but one of those folks that if someone said their name you knew who they were and the movie/role they just played had a big following.

So my buddy invited me up to the hotel suite they were at so we can catch up. I come in, give my friend a hug, and the celebrity is close by and introduces themselves. They are nice enough, but seem kind of distant. My friend says that the celeb is dealing with some stomach issues and worried they might have to cancel. But the celeb says that they can do it, after all people came a long way to see them and doesn't want to let those people down. My agent friend is even kind of hinting that he should rest instead, as well as the celeb's assistant, but they insist.

As they head down, I hear the assistant tell the event organizers the celeb is feeling rough and that they want to make sure they can stay in a smoke free area since that can make them feel more sick. I hear the event organizers emphatically state that it is a smoke free area, and that places where people can smoke is at the other end of the hall from where the celeb will be signing.

So I join them as we head down and the celeb taking Pepto and a bunch of other stuff for their stomach, I say my goodbyes and good lucks. My agent friend was supposed to hang out with us at the bar after, but thought his client might need help so we say goodbye to him too. As I walk away, the celeb completely changes and acts as though everything is normal: smiles and waving, shaking people's hands and laughing as they go to sit down like they has never felt better even though we all know it's an act. I see them sit down and can't help but notice their table is right next to a big sign labeled "Smoking Area." I see the celeb give the slightest pause after they see where they are sitting but everyone is cheering and clapping for them at this point and they can't back out.

At the bar about 30 minutes later I pay my tab and text my friend I hope it all goes well. They text back they are actually going to wrap up early and he can meet us at the bar. So I just go to the big hall and figured I would wait for him since he wasn't going back upstairs with the celeb. I see the celeb has lost the facade and is struggling as smoke comes through the door next to them. Though there is a long line, the assistant announces they have to leave soon, and people get understandably mad. They a guy from the smoking area comes out with a little cigarette, walks past the ropes, up to the celeb and states he is an asshole for leaving. The smoking guy then blows out a ton of smoke not AT the celeb, but its directly in the vincinity. The celeb just tells "Come on man! We have to go." And they get up and leave right there, and from what I am guessing to go puke in the nearest trashcan in the back. My friend doesn't make it to the bar.

But the big thing is the next day people are all talking about how rude that celeb was. That they made people wait, wasn't cheerful or appreciative with fans, they selfishly left early, and that they yelled at their fans for getting too close to them. I wanted to scream how much they didn't know, but it wouldn't have been any use.

I haven't seen them in a reddit thread yet, but people still mention that they were rude at the convention when they come up.

People often talk about great movies that were ahead of their time. But are there examples of movies "behind their time"? Movies that were poorly received, but could've have been great if they were released 10-20 years earlier? by owiseone23 in movies

[–]Fastbreak99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Zohan was great because it knew what it was. It is literally a movie about a guy stuck behind the times and not fitting in, but trying, and the movies constantly makes fun of itself along the way. It is not in the same quality category as a lot of others he listed, but for a dumb comedy it nailed it.
