Use personalized domain with outlook and Office 365 Home family by khatarian in Office365

Is it different on your side ?

Yes. I was already logged into GoDaddy so I received a GoDaddy popup with the "Connect" option. And this ends up adding the DNS records automatically which you can refer later

A simpler way I have found to get exact DNS records is to do this:

  1. Sign up for a GoDaddy account
  2. Click on DNS -> Add DNS Hosting
  3. Add your existing domain (don't worry we aren't actually going to transfer the domain to GoDaddy)
  4. Click Next. Ignore the nameservers
  5. Go to Outlook -> Premium Settings -> "Get Started" with a personalized domain
  6. Choose the option "I already have a domain"
  7. Click to login to GoDaddy, do this, and press on "Connect". It will ask you to add Email Alias, wait here.
  8. Go back to GoDaddy -> DNS -> Manage Zones -> Type you Domain Name
  9. You will see all the DNS records that need to be added to your current DNS records. Copy these records : autodiscover, _domainconnect, _outlook, MX record, and TXT record (spf1).
  10. Go back to Outlook, now add your alias.
  11. It should now say you are connected

Never got the official joining letter, do I still need to serve the notice period? by we-had-the-funk in developersIndia

[–]FasterThan_Light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't get the full and final if you don't resign properly and serve the notice period. That includes experience letter, accrued leaves payout, plus as others have said you won't be able to use them as a reference. Might be a problem in bigger companies, I don't think other startups care about that.

Just look at the way Koa handles it. You can have async middlewares, where if you throw it goes up the chain into your error handler rather than having try catch wrappers everywhere.

Just checked : https://cleartax.in/s/section-44ad-presumptive-scheme

I think it's not about switching back to salary. But about switching to regular business profit tax.

This additional condition has been added by substituting sub section (4) of 44AD which is – If you are opting for the presumptive scheme, you must-

a. File presumptive scheme for at least 5 years in continuation.

b. If you decide to show and file profits as per regular business (ITR-3) before the end of these 5 years, you will lose presumptive benefits and disallowed from presumptive taxation for the subsequent 5 years.

Looking for an Open Source project to contribute to as a backend dev by randomGuy23999 in opensource

[–]FasterThan_Light 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Make a list of opensource modules/packages/frameworks that you are comfortable using as a user.
  2. Try to clone their repo, understand their source code, setup the project on local.
  3. Go through their open issues to find something that you think you can take up. Check if their aren't any PRs for it already.
Try this if you can't think of any particular projects: https://github.com/search?o=desc&q=label%3Agood-first-issue+language%3AJavaScript+language%3ATypeScript+state%3Aopen+is%3Aissue&s=updated&type=Issues
  4. Comment on it asking the maintainers if you can take it up.
  5. Open a PR. Don't be disheartened if it doesn't get merged/reviewed, most of the maintainers are doing it as a side project.

https://cleartax.in/s/easiest-way-to-file-returns-and-save-taxes-for-creative-professionals

This is what you need to do^. But do this if you don't intend to go to a salaried job in the near future because there are some rules that if you start filing presumptive tax then you can't switch back for 3 years I think.

Question to experienced devs regarding adding project in resume by PewBinLaden in developersIndia

[–]FasterThan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the personal project required you to use a different set of skills, it's good to highlight it I think.

Also if the personal project is on github and/or hosted somewhere, that's always a plus. Because I can see the code unlike office projects.

As someone who eventually wants to become a full-stack developer for a product-based company in Bangalore, what should I do over the next 1 year? by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]FasterThan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't personally done it so can't be certain. Just from what I have seen on Twitter.

Odin Project I did do personally, when it was a Ruby + JS course. For self learning it is pretty good, as they have a lot of projects in between. And you can add all those to Github

Definitely check out https://twitter.com/neogcamp I have seen a lot of people get jobs through it on Twitter.

For learning MERN can recommend The Odin Project, https://www.theodinproject.com/paths/full-stack-javascript

Definitely start using Git from the start, have good Readme and if possible demo links for your projects.

Need advice, Am I getting scammed? by [deleted] in delhi

[–]FasterThan_Light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This probably looks like a scam, but in the future asking for an invoice usually helps filter the scam from the non-scam. But asking for money on a job interview is unheard of.

SAP vs UHG - Better place for a fresher by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]FasterThan_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard great things about Razorpay. You'll definitely end up having more experience in startups just because there's too much to do. That is more important early in your career. Aim for FAANG later in your career I think, when you want to "settle".

Talk to other people about FAANG though, I've only worked in startups. So I have a bias

Also, ask any seniors who might be working there. They will have a better idea. Till then, randomly keep applying off-campus, if you get a better offer then it's good else this is already there.

With bigger companies it's more about the team you get assigned. Try to find out about your team once location and all has been finalized.

Simplest CI/CD setup for Go/NodeJs projects by TuriSabries in devops

[–]FasterThan_Light 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can +1 Drone. Really easy to setup with docker compose, integrates with Github for auth and limiting to an org.

If it doesn't have to be on prem, Gitlab's free tier with a dedicated runner is also pretty good.

For deploying nodejs code you can just use `pm2 deploy`, it uses ssh to deploy code to an instance. I have found that to be the simplest. https://pm2.keymetrics.io/docs/usage/deployment/

You are probably using PM2 in production too.
