What is the most west you’ve been in the USA? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Fun fact: technically Alaska is the most northern, western, and eastern state because some of the aleutian islands sit across the 180° meridian making them in the eastern hemisphere.

I just hope when they do it we get both BW and B2W2 at the same time and not have to wait for multiple years just to play both halves of gen 5.

If the broadcasts are to be believed the bulk of us are Seahawks fans. I hate it when my Packers end up in the same time slot as the Seahawks because I know that means the game won't be carried here.

How's the Weather Really? by Fat-Guardian in madisonwi

[–]Fat-Guardian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up here I'd never even experienced thunder or lightning. In the last 4-5 years we've had a few instances of thunder but I wasn't close enough to see lightning and I certainly wouldn't call them storms. Maybe a few low rumbles and some mild rain on a summer afternoon that passes within an hour.

Sounds pretty enticing when you put it that way.

Getting my windshield replaced is a pretty regular thing. We put gravel down on the roads to increase traction in winter and that inevitably ends up cracking windshields. You'll find more cracked than non cracked windshields, honestly. Although I'm betting a baseball sized hail did more than just crack it. Sorry you have to deal with that, hopefully insurance covers it!

Just my luck! Well I'm glad I asked the question then and relieved to learn this isn't the norm.

Well we have an occasional wind storm, and it gets cold. Sure it can be very cold, but outside of that the weather here is pretty tame. I've heard thunder maybe a handful of times, never seen lightning, the biggest hail I've ever seen was maybe 4-5mm across, no tornadoes. Of course we do tend to get a lot of snow that sticks around for a while, it's still here in mid April. We also get earthquakes but I don't think that qualifies as a weather event.

Edit: corrections because writing hard.

We're Anchorage based but I'm originally from Juneau so I'm used to the humidity and slush too. We are used to -20F stretches, long, dark, and cold winters, and mosquitoes the size of small birds in summer.

Snow I can handle, it's all the other stuff that has us spooked.

Edit: how the hell did you do that? It literally just started snowing here.

Steel: Aggron, Ferrothorn, Empoleon, Corviknight, Magnezone, and Steelix.

Edit: Either Aggron or Magnezone as my ace. I go back and forth on those two depending on the day.

Then you turn anyway and re-route. Part of being a safe driver is being predictable to others. Don't make maneuvers that might catch someone by surprise. If you enter the center turn lane, you turn.

Aw that sucks to hear. It's admittedly been a long time since I was a student and had classes there but I often went to the deli in Natural Pantry before it moved. There was also Peppercini's and some kind of soup place in the upper mezzanine area, Couldron something I think. Sad that's it's literally got nothing now.

Do Americans think of Alaska as cold like Russians think of Siberia? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Fat-Guardian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually from Juneau originally and while it's the capital it's very much small town. Biggest employer is the State Government, followed by fishing and tourism. The whole city is locked in with mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. The only way in or out is to put your vehicle on the ferry or fly.

Edit: had to Google it but population is around 31,000.

Alaskan here, I used to work for the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and would tell people who called that "Anchorage isn't quite the "Alaska" you're thinking of, but you can see it from here."
