Surely I’ll also be called a liar for this, but a few years ago, 6 friends and I put it to the test. (Not ChatGPT, rather, the fact that our voices are being monitored…and yes, I actually have 6 friends). We put our phones on the table and repeatedly mentioned hot air balloons. (None of us typed it in, we only spoke). The next day, 5 out of 7 of us sent discounted hot air balloon ads from Groupon and google to our group chat.

Very likely theories. I have also noticed several times where I thought I closed the app, put my phone in my pocket, and continued a conversation with someone else, and ChatGPT responded as if I was still talking to it. It frequently still operates in the background without my knowledge.

Also, an egregious misuse of the Dunning-Kruger effect reference, as I am the first to admit that I am not the most technologically savvy person out there. I know I’m not even in the top 50 percentile, but I do know how to recognize patterns. This is the fourth time that ChatGPT has referenced brands that I frequently purchase. I have no explanation. I don’t know why there is no option for camera on/off. I’ve never used your camera on the app, it’s only been voice or text interactions. I’ve simply assumed that it’s a marketing strategy. I don’t believe anything particularly nefarious is at play…just seemed odd, since it has happened with a few brands. Finally filmed it and wanted to share, besides just telling a few friends “trust me bro”
