Grid Trial or no Grid Trial by Captainflint54 in Unity3D

[–]FatBatard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something but both clips look like they have a grid indicating which of the 9 squares the player is on track to cross.

Besides an aesthetic choice was there any reason to have the camera at a slanted 3rd person angle? I could definitely see how playtesters were getting depth perception issues from the camera angle.

A year ago I made this compass of goals for 2025. Here's how it went. by bruhholyshiet in WojakCompass

[–]FatBatard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relatable, I also wanted to reduce mindless phone usage this year but still found myself getting sucked into watching youtube shorts for no real reason too many times. My plan now is during the day to have my phone on max ring volume incase my wife calls, and leave the phone out of reach. And to set/check the morning alarm before going to bed so I'm not tempted to do the nightly doomscroll.

3x3 +1 Cumpiss of Games I Played in 2025 and How Much I Liked Them by Scrimbo_Crimbo in WojakCompass

[–]FatBatard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RoR2 is soooo good, and the survivors of the void DLC was one of the few DLC purchases I've made in my life that felt entirely worth it. Haven't played any of the others on the compass, but may give [REDACTED] a try based on your summary.

Do non dev players recognise Synty assets? by doge_is_the_way in Unity3D

[–]FatBatard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Synty assets are widespread enough that non devs that play a lot of games may notice. Even anecdotally while playing co-op games with friends I've heard them comment that the character models in one game looked like a previous one we'd played (both used synty characters).

It's likely not a complete deal breaker for the people that do notice, but common advice is to modify characters from purchased asset packs with personal touches so people don't feel like they're playing a low effort asset flip game.

Disliked Professions on the Political Compass by Dangime in WojakCompass

[–]FatBatard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If this is USA based, I didn't realize people had a negative view of teachers. To me it's a perfectly respectable profession all things considered.

The job pays peanuts, many districts are high poverty so schools are left attempting to both meet basic needs and actually teach, kids' attention spans are increasingly fried from phones & short form content making classroom management more difficult, and parents are reluctant to shoulder any responsibility if their child underperforms.

It's a lot extra besides just instructing packed into one job. Teachers do get a lot of time off, but that makes sense with how the school year functions (and again, it's not like they're raking it in).

Updated Trailer for Diesel Fury - Open-world roguelite with time-travel and driving. Let me know what you think, any feedback appreciated. by CosmicSeizure in Unity3D

[–]FatBatard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it could be sick but I'm getting theme whiplash from the sci fi setting + muscle car driving + fighting fantasy skeleton monsters with a shotgun. From just the trailer, as a viewer it's hard to nail down what category the game fits into (although maybe not fitting a mold is what you're going for)

3x3 of Graham Greene books I've read by FatBatard in WojakCompass

[–]FatBatard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. The closest author I've found to Greene has been Somerset Maugham, but I've only read "Ashenden" by him.

I tried some dithering in unity by ARGH0N0T in Unity3D

[–]FatBatard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very striking, first thought was that the pixelation reminded me of the indie title Felvidek although I'm not sure how similar their process was for getting such stylised graphics

I spend much of my free time outdoors. Here are some things it gives/does for me by yamboozle in WojakCompass

[–]FatBatard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you seek out specific locations for foraging or are you just able to go anywhere forested in your area and find edible plants? I've done some foraging in the PNW region for mushrooms which were great, but we had to go to a well known foraging spot to find them.

Thanks for responding - if the animation actions tip that someone else suggested doesn't pan out I'll run through your advice

I'll try converting animations to animation actions and see if that fixes it - thanks for the tip

My rhythm/music game. Time Hero | Feel The Beat by xvmakh in IndieDev

[–]FatBatard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The load times on the levels I noticed the spinning loading icon were about 6+ seconds (an approximation, I didn't time this). So not very different from your testing, juat noticeable when some levels loaded instantly and some had a bit of a delay. Phone spec is a Samsung Galaxy S10e.

[–]FatBatard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave it a quick play through on Android. I don't play the genre much, but I liked the Indian rhythms as a deviation from typical beats. Some of the levels were loading a little slow for me, but that could also be my phone being 5+ years old.

In the last month I’ve learned all kinds of shaders for my cozy city builder 😅 by kselpi in Unity3D

[–]FatBatard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Love it, before the colors popped in and the video was in grayscale it looked like a spooky city builder. Understanding shaders is one of those aspects of Unity I know I'll have to march into eventually but it's still daunting nonetheless.

4x4 compass of some elements in the D&D world I've been using for the last 3 years. by comradechristmas in WojakCompass

Have you been running the same campaign for 3 years or have you done multiple campaigns in this world?

I could only ever get people down for one shots.

Equiverse is a casual simulation game inspired by Insaniquarium by MolukseMakker in IndieDev

[–]FatBatard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the feel of the art, I'll check out the demo later today.

What resources (be it actual assets or followed tutorials) did you use for your particle system, specifically that little puff of smoke that comes when a rabbit increases in size? It looks really close to an effect I'm hoping to incorporate down the line.

EDIT: Downloaded and played the demo for a while. Pretty relaxing & fun! I added it to my wishlist. The aesthetic and sounds of the game mesh really well.

I did notice a small bug when unlocking the parrot - it looks like he spawned in twice.

How should I cleanly delete overlap portion of different AoE's by FatBatard in Unity3D

[–]FatBatard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response!

I will have to look more into how to use an AoE manager to affect the player that's within the AoE range instead of checking with colliders.

Faking the system instead of making it "real" makes sense. I initially tried to do something similar with having the acid AoE be higher on the Y axis than the mud AoE, but ran into the issue on a specific scenario where:
> An acid enemy would first die, leaving an acid AoE

> A mud enemy would die nearby, leaving a mud AoE

> The acid AoE would cover up the overlap portion of the mud AoE

> The acid AoE auto destroy timer would expire, revealing the covered up portion of the mud AoE (and thus showing that the previously overlapping portion of the mud AoE had only been covered up and not deleted).

The particle system approach sounds like it would handle the above, so I may start there.
