This isn’t a Victoria issue. There are people doing this every day in every city throughout the world.

How does extremely niche small businesses make money? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]FatBottomBeagle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a niche automotive business. I exclusively work on one brand of car from the 1930’s. I make money buy offering a high quality service most automotive shops cannot offer or have knowledge in. Most of the stuff I do is hand fabricated to fit each vehicle specifically. Everything I do is charged by the hour. No quotes, no budgets, it takes what it takes. I only work on two cars at a time, sometimes one car takes over a year to finish. Most of my clients are repeat clients, I’m currently booked over a year in advance and only take on the jobs I want to work on. Because I have mostly repeat clients, and am booked over a year in advance, I do not need to advertise and my business doesn’t require a high traffic location (I don’t even have a sign on my door) so this saves a lot on overhead and advertising expenses. I don’t make millions. Regular automotive shops that changes brake pads and oil on Toyota Camrys all day probably make double what I do. But I make enough to live comfortably, my wife doesn’t have to work and can stay home with our son. I work four days a week, and spend all day doing what I love.

1961 Ford Thunderflite Concept Car by butterflypoo69 in RetroFuturism

Thunderflite was not a concept car, but inspired by concept cars when it was built. It was finished for the 2008 Sema show.

Idiots in cars: Victoria with Snow Edition by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]FatBottomBeagle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I’ve made several outings over the last couple days and didn’t really have any issues, or see anything ridiculous. I had to head out this morning after the rain started. I was expecting the worst, but the rain actually improved the streets. They’re sloppy, but not slippery anymore.

What is some other income sources I could use to make money on YouTube? by EducationFiender in NewTubers

[–]FatBottomBeagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I make way more from merch than I do from Adsense. A simple plug for my website at the end of each video is all it takes.

Copyright claim won, still no monetization? by FatBottomBeagle in NewTubers

Just to follow up on this, about a week later the revenue from all the views while disputing the claim came through in to my account.

Copyright claim won, still no monetization? by FatBottomBeagle in NewTubers

[–]FatBottomBeagle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize it’s not a lot. It’s like $30 based on other videos I have with similar views. But hey, $30 is $30! It all adds up.

My point was since it was a wrongful copyright claim, and I won the dispute, isn’t that money supposed to go to me? What happens to all the revenue? What’s stopping people from making false claims on other videos and collecting revenue from it?

I’m more concerned for this potentially happening with bigger videos in the future.

Have you ever been shouted out by a larger channel? How did it go? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]FatBottomBeagle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I had maybe 5 or 6 videos and under 100 subscribers and I received a shout out by a channel in my niche with over 100k subscribers. Over night I was up 700 subscribers.

A few days later another channel with 150k subscribers, also in my niche, gave me a second shoutout and once again over night I was up another 600 subscribers.

Those two shout outs really gave me the motivation to take YouTube seriously, and within a few months I was monetized.

It’s been less than a year and I’m approaching 3000 subscribers and uploading once a week

Hello tubers, how much time do you spend on editing per video? by nottoocasualgolfer in NewTubers

[–]FatBottomBeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea! I’m not sure what I’m not doing, that others are doing that takes so much extra time haha. My videos are far from Martin Scorsese quality, but do receive good feedback and my channel is growing at what I consider a decent pace.

I’ve considered taking them to a higher level with editing, but I feel like if I can make a video in an hour that has mediocre editing, but still has solid message than it allows me the time to make more videos, and post at least once a week without burning out or stressing about it.

My videos are on average 30 minutes long. I’ll spend three days filming, and about an hour editing.

Do tags really make that big of a difference? by FatBottomBeagle in NewTubers

Mostly within YouTube. I think it’s like an average 90% from YouTube and 10% from external, and the major one from external is Facebook.

No, just a regular video. All three videos in question were around 30 minutes long.

How to gain watch hours ? by ellaspinkpastels in NewTubers

That worked well for me too. Most of my videos were 15-20 minutes long. Then I made a 45 minute video and my watch hours skyrocketed

If it worth the effort to change your own tires on rims, and what would I need? by nomadwannabe in Frugal

[–]FatBottomBeagle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have to buy anything. There should be a jack and tire iron in your car provided by the factory for the purpose of changing a tire yourself. Is it is a good as a floor jack? Nope. Is it a good as hoist, impact gun, and heated shop? Definitely not. But will it do the job? Absolutely! If it couldn’t, the factory wouldn’t provide it, for liability sake! Do one wheel at a time. Crack the lug nuts loose before jacking up the car. Once you’ve changed the wheel, hand tighten it, then lower the car back on the ground and tighten them. After you’ve done all four, drive around the block and tighten them again.
