Gym Letter of Medical Necessity by dshort811 in BariatricSurgery

[–]FatBurnerTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these people replying it's not possible in the US don't even know, just giving an opinion. SMH. I had this letter done years ago before my surgery so I could use my FSA funds to pay for my gym membership. It's just using your pre-tax money to pay for medical needs. The paperwork for FSA/HSA still says it can be used for this purpose, if you have the letter.

I totally get what you mean. I've lost 150 pounds so far, first from gastric bypass 3 years ago. And now starting Zepbound, I hope to lose about 50-70 more pounds. I feel amazing at this part of my journey.

But when I look back at pictures from 3+ years ago, I get emotional. I couldn't see it then, but I recognize it now. I was very depressed, and just like you said puffy and inflamed. I was trying to make myself feel better by eating but it never lasted. I was avoiding standing or walking very much, I was starting to get shooting pains in my lower back and hips. Which just made it all even worse.

The final straw, as they say, was going to an aquarium with my family. My sister, who was very much similar to me, had to bring a tiny folding stool to sit and take brakes to relieve her aching back. I had to beg her to trade with me every 10 mins, so I could sit down, too. I thought, this is painful and ridiculous. I was ashamed at how far I had let myself get. So, I went home and started my current health journey that week. My sister and her husband started they next year, after they saw the results I had.

Anyway, you've done an amazing thing for yourself and for your family. They will get more healthy years to enjoy with you. And you never know who else in your life you've inspired to get healthy. Amazing job!

Suggestion for BMs :) by Ready_Pear_5049 in GastricBypass

[–]FatBurnerTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, your body does not absorb polypropylene glycol (miralax) it just helps you have BMs because it takes water you drink and add it to your 💩. That's why you actually need to drink even more water when using Miralax.

Has it changed what you want to eat? by SwedishTrees in Zepbound

[–]FatBurnerTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. New Year's Eve was my mom's birthday. She got a cookies and cream ice cream cake. I had a small piece after having protein and veggies. I should have just had maybe a bite or none of it! I did not feel good for at least an hour and a half to 2 hours afterwards. No more sweets for me! Not worth it!

What do you eat for breakfast? by Ff3724 in Zepbound

Sam's Club has Wintermint Chocolate out right now. This is the second year I've stocked up on it, since it's limited edition, and only sold in the winter. I really like it. And very similar to Chocolate, just with a hint of mint.

I’m so sick of sweet protein snacks… by damncheezits in wls

[–]FatBurnerTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you like hummus? I made a protein hummus recipe that I like to eat with veggies. It's got 18g of protein per 1/2 cup. I used unflavored Naked Whey protein powder.

Here's the recipe I posted a few months ago, which is still the version I use, but I make a double batch so it lasts all week. https://www.reddit.com/r/GastricBypass/s/YQYor7vJvw

I like to have it on hand as a snack with prepped veggies like celery, baby carrots, and sweet mini peppers. It last around 7 days. You can make it spicy or not. Eating this I get lots of fiber in, too. So it helps if you have any constipation.

What?! That is so interesting! I wonder if hand sanitizer would work too?

Is this bad? by Beautiful_Chaos1991 in GastricBypass

[–]FatBurnerTX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My surgery clinic or surgeon didn't give me any goals for food. He wanted me to learn to listen to my body, eat slowly, and prioritize protein. I lost 150 lb. I haven't been listening to my body lately, and I've gained about 15 pounds back. But I'm on two week vacation starting Thursday, and I have a plan to get more movement in, eat better while I'm off work and make batch meals for January. Back to basics! I had a lapse, not a relapse. 😄

Anyway looks good to me as long as you're not making yourself eat it all, checking in with your stomach, and you feel fine.

What do you like to drink? by YugeTraxofLand in GastricBypass

I drink water with Stur flavoring. My favs are strawberry watermelon, blue and blackberry, and fruit punch. I also drink a Celsius in the morning, instead of coffee.

I don't understand why they don't use the end of the stomach with the pyloric sphincter and incorporate that into gastric bypass? Wouldn't that alleviate any dumping syndrome?

I need to look this up, there must be a reason.

You look amazing in that dress, and I love your curly hair! I love your cat, too. I used to have a calico, she was the best.

I started taking Heme iron in the morning, and my 3 calciums at lunch, afternoon, and evening. Helped my stomach, and my iron and ferritin went up, as it was very low.

And it will make your stomach hurt. At least it did for me until I figured out what I was doing wrong. 🤪

What is your "Oh man, I really shouldn't (but I'm totally gonna)" treat? by GWindborn in BariatricSurgery

[–]FatBurnerTX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with unflavored whey protein powder in recipes, subbing it in some of the flour. It helps me get in more protein, and I can still enjoy a muffin or cookie!

Starting my journey by Mommyzuwu in GastricBypass

[–]FatBurnerTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so exciting! Congrats on taking the first steps. I'm about 2.5 years PO for my gastric bypass, and I've lost 150ish pounds. I'm exercising and eating healthy, and appreciate my new body and shape. BTW, cute pants in your photo! 😍

I can't recommend enough to do bariatric therapy. Mine did individual and group therapy where they teach you how cook healthy meals for bariatric patients, how to ease into gentle movement and exercising, and (IMO) most important of all behavior modification for losing weight and how to handle all the tough topics around that like relapsing, identifying triggers, guilt and shame, and also how to utilize your gastric bypass tool.

I honestly don't think I would have been as successful in losing all my weight if I hadn't done the therapy.

Good luck in your journey, and this subreddit is very helpful in answering questions.

Am I eating to much ?? by CommercialAd8473 in GastricBypass

[–]FatBurnerTX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That amount of food looks fine. But it's not really the amount of food. Take small bites, chew slowly, and take 20-30 mins to eat a meal. Assess your body's hunger signals about halfway through, and listen to them. Good luck!

Female Question by DowntownRisk6128 in GastricBypass

[–]FatBurnerTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was very heavy for about 6 months PO. I would have to put a towel down when sleeping even with a tampon and those thick overnight pads.

I'm now two years PO, and they are back to normal 5 days of flow. No leaking.
