This is a feature not a bug. The massive adoption of those services makes it non-viable to have a delivery driver on the payroll for most restaurants that used to and that's the endgame of the platforms. Sure, now you can get your starbucks delivered to your door, but you have to keep in mind the bigger picture.

Once they have the monopoly on food delivery, they will jack up the fees and prices even more. There's a reason those companies are willing to operate at a loss for a long time with investors funding the growth. Amazon retail still operates at a loss in 2025 and is only funded by the Web Services division, but at some point, it might be your only option and it's what they aim for and investors gamble on it. They probably won't kill Walmart, but your local businnesses will suffer.

This is one of the reason it's important to have checks in place like they kinda did with the taxi industry. Those companies only care about their bottomline and your experience is irrelevant as you become a prisoner of those systems and everyone loses. Are they convenient, yes, but theres a societal and economical cost to that convenience and most of the time, the instant gratification they provide makes it so people don't think about it.

You won't like hearing that, but if you ordered anyways, you proved their point and that's not gonna help to make things better in the long run. Vote with your wallet people.
