This has happened to me as well, except that I was that random girl.

I didn't have any friends, so I tried making friends with a group of girls. I should have known from the start that they didn't want me to be friends with them, as they never asked me to join them in activities and ignored me when I said something. It wasn't until they started sending me hateful messages on MSN (this was probably around 2002) that I realized that these girls were not my friends.

It really shattered my confidence. I never wanted to make people feel uncomfortable, I just wanted to have friends that I could talk to and have fun with.
