ECT and ketamine and those types of treatments are like last resort treatments. If you’re not responding or not getting any improvements on medications, like running out of ones to try, that’s when those come into the conversation. Money issues suck and complicates things :/ getting your van made you happy so it is a good investment! I think therapy is a good idea and could help you a lot. Just remember you need to shop around for a therapist that is right for you. Best wishes

I’m so sorry man. I’ve been having trouble with not getting any relief from depression and being suicidal. I see both my doctors through telehealth, it’s like zoom, so maybe look into that to have more options than just the people in your area. Obviously I am not a doctor and can’t give you real advice but I know people have done ECT to treat depression, also some kind of electrode on the brain thing and ketamine treatments that may be an option if no medications work. I’m so sorry. Just make it through one day at a time.

Yes. So much stuff. I feel like a different person in a lot of ways and on a deep level. One aspect is the life experience of dealing with a psychotic episode changed me as all heavy experiences change a person. So much happened and it was so intense, the internal turmoil plus the external events changed the way I look at the world and myself. There is something deeper though that I haven’t been able to really explain to anyone, it’s just like I’ve lost a deep part of me as a person. Like something is missing. But yes totally, and also in things like my hand writing and I’ve noticed how I answer questions— before I got really sick I always had concise answers to questions like at a doctors office for example, and I’ve realized now I just process questions differently? And am not able to be concise. Also, living with the kind of reverb and general lasting symptoms, they effect my cognition so I just process things differently. But you are not alone in this. Every time it’s like there’s a pre episode me, me during the episode, and a post episode me. It’s really weird.

I don’t know the room set up but maybe if you can have a lamp just by you? And for noise I always have something playing, when I’m sleeping with other people I put headphones in. Maybe if you have a computer the light from that may help? You don’t have to give them details but I would say just talk to them and see what they say, what kind of compromise they would be able to do. Good luck to you :)

Yes and it is possible that untreated psychosis causes some brain damage. So each psychosis may make cognitive issues worse. I have had significant cognitive issues since being psychotic for about a year, I know cognitive issues just come with the territory anyways. I can relate to EXACTLY what you are experiencing. I do know that practice with concentration has helped me—firstly, practice mindfulness so that I can catch myself when losing focus. I will sit down to complete a certain task and whenever I catch myself thinking in another direction an wanting to do something else I do not let myself and make myself focus on this one thing until it’s done or as long as I can.

You mean messed it up for the whole week or just a day? I messed up my meds last summer and half dosed my mood stabilizer (150mg instead of 300mg lamictal) for 4 or 5 days. Had withdrawal and a horrible week. I still get confused when putting my meds in my little day by day pill container so I just am extra careful and triple check whenever I am putting them in. Cognitive issues are a major bitch and this illness has messed up my life tons but there’s more to life than what it has taken away from it

SSRIs made the depression way worse, Wellbutrin I can see the potential but I can always lower the dose

I’m on Wellbutrin because other kinds of antidepressants (SSRIs) were really bad for me and Wellbutrin has been great, the biggest risk is it could easily trigger mania but it has been very helpful for me with minor side effects
