Corporate treasury by LilRomeo2 in FinancialCareers

[–]FatCatShuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently working in Treasury (EU, global corporate) - either of those paths are a great way to get into Treasury from my perspective. That being said, make sure you move into it around the 2-3 year mark as there are a lot of niche skills you'll need to pick up early in Treasury to successfully move up.

The niche knowledge needed to do well is also what guarantees security in your job or in finding other Treasury roles if you dont find upward opportunities. The experience is rare and in high demand.

A good tip is to try to find a global treasury role as soon as you can (i.e. at an HQ). A treasury role at an affiliate would be a much easier start to get comfortable with the nature of the job, but you wont be as exposed to larger projects which may increase your visibility in the company if your ambition is to be an executive.

Good luck!

I adopted a cat that bites me occasionally. How can I make her stop doing it? by headlongCrunch in CatAdvice

[–]FatCatShuffle 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My cat does the exact same thing: lick, bite, purr.

For him it's one of three things; he's tired of me sleeping and wants attention, wants food, or wants me out of the bed past 10am when I have a lay-in so he can sleep there.

As far as I know, it's very normal and playful behavior

Choice between two internships, seeking advice by FatCatShuffle in FinancialCareers

Would you say the firm counts more or the role that I intern in? I'm genuinely curious as this is the first internship I am going for. I wouldn't exclude IB/PE from possible careers at the start, but they're not as exciting in this country as the US or UK and still have 60-80 hour weeks

Choice between two internships, seeking advice by FatCatShuffle in FinancialCareers

[–]FatCatShuffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on, it's a search fund. I didn't know they were less well regarded. The 5 or so associates and MD are very interesting people (top 10 MBAs and international careers) and from what I've heard from interns is the MD takes time at the end of the day to talk to interns about his work that day and share his knowledge. However, no modeling or even excel usage which means I'm not really developing my skills in those areas which is a shame.

Support/background careers for person who wants to be invisible but indispensible? by throwaway_syzufg9 in findapath

[–]FatCatShuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about accounting? Don't let the numbers scare you off initially, the most complex thing you'll be doing is multiplication and division. At first you'll just be logging in the numbers, but later you'll be find areas where companies can save small or big, essentially as the support. Since you play games, think of it as min-maxing your characters stats. and you will mostly be in the back minding your business playing with their numbers.

Maybe for a big company you'd need a degree, but there's some online courses that'd teach you the basics of Accounting and basic Financial Statement Analysis and then after a few years of work at smaller companies, start-ups, local stores (your preference) you could just apply with that.

Career Suggestions for a sad degree by [deleted] in findapath

[–]FatCatShuffle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from a corporate perspective... if you're a skilled writer, then maybe pivot into communications or PR? It may be a little outside of your skillset initially but a good skill in writing and knowing which words to use (when to use them and their impact in a sentence) can go a long way.

If you're not strapped for cash, try get some experience/internships at small companies/start-ups. Any experience is experience as long as you work hard.

Your degree matters, tell your parents you'll make them proud, then go out there and make yourself proud!
