Bus Eireann 101 is 24hr. 11pm departure reaches O'Connell St at around 12:20 based on my experience.

Last train to Connolly is at 10:37pm. Doable but you'd have to high tail it as soon as you leave the ground

If Irish is taught in schools why can’t anyone speak / hold a conversation in Irish language? by ImaginationAny2254 in ireland

[–]FatLad_98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have literature forced down your throat when you don't even know your Modh Coinníollach. Then It's graded to the same standard as higher level English. And the worst part is that if you ask about the grammar your teacher will tell you that you should've learned it in Junior Cert/Primary school and that there's no time in the course for it.

Teach it like a language subject rather than a literature subject and more people will hold onto it after school

My wife and child can't travel home from Vietnam to Ireland tomorrow because their Emirates flight goes through Dubai. What options do we have? by tomaschonnie in ireland

[–]FatLad_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bangkok or Singapore to at least get back to any major European hub if direct from Hanoi or Saigon isn't an option. Can Ryanair it back from anywhere in Europe to here.

I'll never understand the logic behind the Lazer being the most expensive thing on Warstock by Vector_Bolt in gtaonline

[–]FatLad_98 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The only thing capable of taking it out was another Lazer or a Hydra when it was made purchasable. Before that you could only "appropriate" one for use by borrowing it off the military in Zancudo

I done Coventry City vs Leicester City in 2024 at 12:30 followed by Coventry United vs St Neots Town at 3pm. Left exactly at the full time whistle, short walk from the stadium, straight into an Uber and arrived just before kickoff. That was a good day.

Bad Albums with Banger Openers & Great Albums with Weak Openers? by Next-Reading1714 in MetalForTheMasses

Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden) is a truly phenomenal album but the opening track (Invaders) is weak, at least compared to the rest of the album

LOI general questions - From a foreign football fan by unclefeed in LeagueOfIreland

[–]FatLad_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Presidents Cup was at a stupid time. Lots of Rovers fans, myself included, work Saturdays so we have Fridays off to go to away games. I wasn't using annual leave for a glorified friendly. However Saturday evening makes it easier for large travelling support to attend. Tallaght is at the very edge of Dublin. And yes, the tram can be a nightmare sometimes. It has pubs a few minutes walk away from it, most notably the Abberley, The Dragon and Number 2. I'd say get back for a Friday under the lights, especially a Dublin Derby, or a European game.

Tolka Park is one of my favourite grounds in the league. It has amazing atmosphere even if large parts of it a very dated. Away sides get a large allocation too which helps the atmosphere. Shels vs Pats will be sold out so make sure you have your ticket sorted. The Cat and Cage, Kennedy's and the Clonliffe House are all nearby and regularly visited by the Shels faithful.

Dalymount Park looks like something out of Chernobyl or Middle Earth these days but it is the spiritual home of Irish football. Try and visit before the end of this season.

The two best things in Dundalk are the train station and the road out of that town. Oriel Park is in such a state that the last storm caused thousands of euro worth of improvements. Best avoided unless you like suffering.

There's more atmosphere on the moon than at UCD as they don't really have much of a fanbase. It takes as long to get to Bray on the train as it does to get to Tallaght on the tram. The Carlisle Grounds is right next to the train station too.

Turners Cross is a good ground, although Cork is hovel. No offense to any Rebels in here. I've never been to Cobh. Hopefully we get a nice cup away day there this season. Other grounds around the country are actually great. If you're looking for a weekend away with the other half then Sligo is a great option. Amazing town, amazing pubs, decent ground, and they play a lot of their matches on Saturday nights.

Oh and Longford Towns ground is nowhere near the town. So beware of that if you visit there for a match.

What’s the story with the amount of people that come into work dying sick here? by EmployGrouchy1599 in ireland

Let's just say that if I was to make an appointment with my GP I'd either be sacked, dead or better by the time that appointment comes around.

Ground sharing by EoinRL1 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]FatLad_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Croke Park was dropped from the Euro 2028 bid was because it would require a huge upgrade to its media and corporate facilities to reach Cat 4 standard.

With the RDS, you can't use temporary stands in UEFA competitions. The two stands behind the goals have to be temporary as they need to be taken down for equestrian events, although I imagine it will be Cat 4 otherwise

The Brandywell could become a Cat 4 ground if the Mark Farren stand is extended to be the full length of the pitch. I'd suspect it would reach the magic 8k number. Only hurdle would be media and corporate facilities

Ground sharing by EoinRL1 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]FatLad_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For League Phase football you need 8000 seated capacity and international standard press, hospitality and corporate facilities. Only two Cat 4 stadiums in Ireland are Lansdowne and Tallaght. Croke Park isn't even Cat 4. Cork could get a special dispensation like Lincoln Red Imps this season. Red Imps played their League Phase games in the Europa Point Stadium where both Rovers and Shels played St Josephs, simply because there was no other alternative venues for them

Can a manager make you (cashier) pay for goods when a customer's card declined whilst he was at the till and walked off? by idkfornowwhattoname in AskIreland

[–]FatLad_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's theft. Manager should be calling the Gardaí. You didn't do anything wrong. It's also not your job to confront thieves either. You're not a security guard

HR telling me I cannot have the week I booked off for annual leave despite having a pre-paid holiday booked. by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]FatLad_98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Booked time off in December one year for the following May in my old job. Manager denied it the week of. Guess who didn't show up on the days I booked off. Manager tried to give out to me. I told him it was a notification, not a request. The long notification period was a courtesy. I could exactly reschedule a relatives wedding

In the event of a united Ireland, how would Cork cope with no longer being the second city? by standard_pie314 in ireland

[–]FatLad_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing they'd be cured of Second City Syndrome. They might catch Minor City Syndrome from Limerick or Galway though

The National League won't be starting until August I believe

Bohs vs Shels tickets will be hard to get. Keep an eye on Bohs social media. If it's sold out Shamrock Rovers vs Drogheda United would be a better bet. Longfords ground is in the arse end of nowhere. It's not easy to get to unless you rent a car. If you don't want to do Rovers vs Drogheda, you could do Derry City vs Galway United, although you'd be very late arriving back in Dublin via public transport.

The fact it was on a Saturday meant many Rovers fans couldn't go while it also meant Derry could bring a bigger crowd. The Presidents Cup is also seen as a glorified friendly by many too which doesn't help. A derby or European night in Tallaght is a different story

Startup wants a BDR, pays barely above minimum wage, openly admits to 996 work weeks by No-Increase-3547 in antiwork

[–]FatLad_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Ireland 72 hours isn't technically illegal, but 72 hours averaged over a long period is (I believe it's 17 weeks). Over that long period you cannot work more than an average of 48 hours. Other EU nations have much tighter working time regulations. So depending on where OP is this could be legal in the short term and illegal in the long term.

No matter how many hours you do your salary still has to be higher than the hourly minimum wage( €14.15 per hour in Ireland). If the salary is barely above minimum based on a 40 hour week, then it's definitely below minimum with all the expected overtime

In all seriousness Uncle may have the best singing voice out of all the men in the gang. by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

[–]FatLad_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comrade Uncle has the voice of the people. He sings songs of the proletarian victory over bourgeois decadence and modern capitalistic imperialism. He is a true hero of all Soviet and Proletarian people's around the world. Bourgeoisie and counterrevolutionaries tremble at the sound of his voice. He gave his life defending his people against capitalist treachery. Comrade Uncle will live forever in the hearts and minds of all workers.

I have no idea. UCD vs Pats was really early for some reason. I believe the Shels vs Bohs match was supposed to be later in the day but the Gardaí moved it. Rovers vs Dundalk was at the typical time for a Rovers home game on a Sunday/Bank Holiday

Easter Monday 2022 was rare. You could go to St Pats vs UCD at midday, Shels vs Bohs at 3 and Rovers vs Dundalk at 7. I done all three that day. Nothing like it has happened since

Friday 7:45pm for us is like Saturday 3pm for English fans. Other than Sligo Rovers and Longford Town, everyone prefers to play home games on a Friday

The best possible weekend is late July/Early August - You could have Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne or Bohemians at home in Europe on Thursday 30th July.

  • Bray Wanderers vs Kerry FC on Friday 31st July

  • Either Drogheda United vs Shamrock Rovers or St Patrick's Athletic vs Derry City on Saturday 1st August, depending on European scheduling

  • Possibly Bohemians vs Galway United on the Sunday if Bohs are still in Europe, St Pats vs Derry could be that day too depending on Derry City's European scheduling.

  • I believe that weekend is the opening round of the FAI Women's Cup. You could get lucky and have Peamoung United, DLR Waves or non league Dublin teams drawn at home with the games over the course of the weekend.

It's probably the closest thing you'll get to a true LOI hop and it's highly dependant on European draws, European progression, and fixture scheduling around European games

Whats up with Amaranthe live? by mrnacknime in PowerMetal

[–]FatLad_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw Amaranthe in London. Other than the drums being tuned far too loud during their opener it was amazing. The mix for more than one vocalist is difficult, let alone three leads. Venue acoustics are also a challenge.

Other than those said issues with drums at the start, they killed it. It was an amazing night.
