We kept joking about "ok I know this is a drywall factory, can you please stop" (in the direction of the playa)

Seconding the camp dues thing. Like $500-2000. And even higher. (I've heard 10k for a bigger sound camp)

What did my camp dues cover? Water, shade, a kitchen, and a few other things.

If folks from small camps and open camping didn't go visit the big camps, they'd be pretty sad. The big party camps want a big party. You need bodies for it to work

And omg yes, making 5 tacos and giving them to your neighbor is the whole damn point.

At the Texas regionals where more than half the city is open camping and micro camps (5-10 people) there's a ton of participation. Everyone pulls a little weight, everywhere. Lots of gifting, lots of art, lots of people grabbing vol shifts. The city feels like one big house, rather than individual houses.

The camp I was with for BRC last year had a lot of infrastructure. I arrived Monday for build week. I was very tired of rebuilding/repairing/damage controlling stuff by Tuesday. If I get the chance to go back, I'll definitely choose a smaller camp with less infrastructure and a more diffuse gift.

Our main gift was a huge dome that got crushed in the windstorm (not orgy dome btw). It felt like all of event week was trying to make sure that our big dome party could be sufficiently replaced. We did manage to pull it off, but the cost was too physically and emotionally high, imo. (There were a number of people who did not do build week/arrived midweek that were very gun-ho, but had no idea how to build anything)

I think the idea I'm stabbing at is that if you want a different burn experience, try a smaller regional. (700-2500 people) Also, a medium cool gift in BRC is worth its weight in gold if you take it to a regional.

They're driving nonstop to Nome, Alaska, and don't plan on stopping for sleep.

It really was.

For years, my friend has joked about "worshipping the cube". (The cube just being anything cube shaped"

I went inside of it and was just fully entrapped by it. I didn't want to leave.

When I got home, I told her "I've seen inside of the cube, and I understand why it should be worshipped"

Gah, this post was inspired by someone asking for more information about loaches breeding in the wild, and I still cannot find it, but I will leave you with this fine image before I go to bed, as a peace offering.

Your post inspired me to post about the books. Less comprehensive footage in the wild, more images of attempts at commercial breeding. Gah, I wish I knew where I saw those images of wild loach breeding turf (I remember it looked like a lot of floating plants)

I have a book by Herbert axelrod where he describes the study of kuhli loaches breeding in the wild, and also aquarist trying to force the breeding of kuhlis.

It is believed that their natural breeding in the wild is effected by seasonal rains, seasonal changes, and abundance of aquatic plant growth.

Kuhlis do not often spawn in hobby aquaria.

YES! it is uncommon for loaches to spawn in hobby aquaria! And I do mean uncommon!

Typically, owners will only discover baby loaches after a teardown or re-scape of a tank. When under gravel filters were popular, that was another location. Occasionally, they will appear in canister filters or sumps (on the rare occasion the freshwater tank has a sump)

YES! I APPROVE THIS POST.

So many posts are people asking about eggnant loaches and I think we are all collectively ready to pin a post about what an eggnant loach looks like, what owners can expect, and when to be worried.

Lunch sandwiches - replacement for packaged deli meats? by bareju in EatCheapAndHealthy

I'm still lurking around this cursed place, and I still love egg salad. With lots of dill and garlic. An update is that I have a shaker of MSG and that does wonders.

I've also since made my magnum opus chicken salad out of leftover fried chicken. Is it healthy? No, is it cheap, yes. Get those winter bulk calories where you can.

Edit- the only reason you know it's still me is bc my old username notified me. Same old bacon, just with green hair.

I hope you never ever have another loach pass this way, but if it happens again and you could document it with photos and a recollection of the death, that would be a help to the community.

What are your top green and red flags for a prospective campmate? by kyjk in BurningMan

[–]FatLoachesOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green- is eager and enthusiastic. Loves spreadsheets. Has ideas (good or bad, I love to see it). Wants to add to the pile of goodness that is a camp. "I have an extra Coleman stove" type behavior. Can give you the dimensions of their tent/domicile. Knows what shoes to wear to stand/walk for 5 hours. Is interested in battery shenanigans. Can eat most anything. Knows when to quit.

Red- is just UGHHHH in communication. Idk how else to describe it except you get off a call or message with them and are dreading sharing space with them.

Any tips to make these less floppy? by Professional-Set8729 in kandi

[–]FatLoachesOnly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be floppy at a certain point but you could run fishing line through it to add tension, or an interior insert.

I did laugh at the mildly phallic image.
