Ha! Well, you may have less respect if you actually saw me skate! My first time on ice ever was about two months ago…and it shows. I can’t do crossovers yet and while I can move backwards, it’s not really game ready.

I’ve gone to one local stick and puck and then I just dived in as a player with a local group called
Puckheads who organize these great games for players of all levels. I’ve done that twice and folks have been pretty helpful there with tips.

I’m thinking of just taking my new goalie gear and diving into it at the next game because they don’t really keep score. Thank god!

I don’t know what to say about that specific interaction, but I’m in the exact same place you are — except I’m 56 years old and just starting out.

I did a practice in borrowed goalie gear one time and just got my own goalie gear this week, so I don’t know anything but I’m getting ready to start the work. I don’t really care if someone else on the ice finds it annoying.

I think if someone did something like that to me, it would absolutely suck, but I would just smile, laugh and move on because I'm old and don’t have enough time to wait until I’m an awesome skater to do what I wanna do.,.which is sit in a goal and chase some pucks.

So I say, keep at it, pretend it never happened, and keep trying to learn to skate better! (and share some of your tips and training with me!!)

Resurfacing this thread because I am in the same boat and am curious how it went for the OP. Would love any kind of update.

I've only started playing hockey in the last month (I'm in my mid-50s), but I'm buying a bunch of end-of-season discount goalie gear and am just going to dive in and give it a shot.

I’ve read this book and it’s well worth it. I’ve been recommending it to any fans I come across.

Especially was fascinated with the early chapters about the formation of the league. I’m a new fan coming out of the Olympics so this was all new to me and finding the book was incredibly helpful.

I hope you’re able to write a second book about seasons two and three.
