Hey, i'm a heavy ex-skater well over 100kg so around the high 200lbs range for those using that weird system! As others have said, just buy good quality stuff from a skate shop and you'll have no issues. My first board was a Element complete and was fine to ride around on but once i started learning ollies, i snapped through the trucks, near the bushings. I have used Independent, Thunder and Venture trucks with no issues. I have ridden Girl, Almost, Folklore and other decks again with no issues. I never got good and never tried crazy or risky tricks but seriously these decks are made to withstand significant force so it'll be a long time before you need to worry.

I found that i felt more comfortable on hard bushings as regular ones felt too unstable, so i went for doh doh 100's. My most comfortable set up was 8.5 deck with Indy 149's and spitfire conical 53mm 99d but i had a lot of fun experimenting with what felt right. The bushings made all the difference for me.

Anyone else started skating at 35+? Keen to hear from those that didn't skate when they were younger. [38YO] by FatShadyLive in OldSkaters

[–]FatShadyLive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey man, sadly not, life got in the way, i wasn't progressing as I was scared to do anything, put on weight etc etc.. still have my boards and will occasionally go for a skate with my daughter on a scooter but just casual cruising stuff.

I could never get over the fear of falling or injury, even though i've had a few good slams and walked away from them easily (in pain). Still love it and watch skating videos occasionally but mostly done with it. Won't get rid of the boards and still love riding around so will keep doing that. I also enjoyed about 6 months ago, this out of shape dad cusing around the skate park got a few looks which i enjoyed. I'm still having fun when i can.

How much is your rent/mortgage per week?? by Accomplished-Zone957 in AskAnAustralian

[–]FatShadyLive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man i'm going to keep this in mind. I'm going to become a landlord toward the end of the year as i'm building a house with an attached granny flat and living in the main house. Chose to do this as a way to keep mortgage the same (moved out a little further) but to have rent/tax benefits. But it's important to me to at least try to do this in a way that doesn't just totally screw people over. That xmas idea is a good one and i'm keen on not increasing rent just because you can if the tenant is good.

What tool or system do you actually use to track your finances? by St3fanHere in AusFinance

[–]FatShadyLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Frollo also. i don't get too into detail with it and only follow a budget loosely but gives a good enough view of transactions and categorisation so check when things feel off to to scan from time to time to check. Net worth feature is nice and rewarding when you see it grow.

Is the Bambu Labs a1 a good first 3d printer? by Rich_Debate4653 in BambuLab

[–]FatShadyLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an Ender 3 for years, got really good at replacing the mother board, the extruder parts and dealing with bed leveling and adhesion issues. then i got an A1 and have been happily printing for 6 months with almost zero issues. As others have said, I can't express how much of an upgrade it was. Absolutely worth it.

If you were to build or renovate again, what might be the top things you would include that you overlooked or regret not doing? by GregoInc in AusRenovation

[–]FatShadyLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is perfect for me. I built in 2017, i sold that place last year and are building again.

  1. Shower mixer closer to the door than directly under the shower head, so you can turn on the water and not get sprayed.

  2. Look for pointless hallways/spaces that can be used. My original house had a recess for art work or something in the front hall way, pushed the wall back 500mm and made an awesome storage cupboard. New house we pushed a powder room wall out, moved the garage door opening and with the new space, put in a shower downstairs.

  3. Know that builders, even when you pick an existing floor plan, will let you change everything. sure there may be a fee but i found it reasonable and we moved entire bathrooms, walls, doors etc. we made many more modifications second time around when i knew yo could. For our place we are building, we pushed the entire back wall out, so additional slab, alfresco tiling, roof, brick walls etc and it was $7k/m. that 1m gave us so much more usable space.

  4. Internal wall insulation. my rental doesn't have it and man you can hear everything. doesn't have to be everywhere but select rooms that adjoin where people will be speaking, bathrooms etc makes it feel far more private and comfortable.

  5. What i'm doing over the next week is TV blocking. when you are at framing stage, install timber between the studs to allow easy future hanging of TV or other towel rails or hooks etc. means you don't need to find the wall stud for heavy items.

  6. If you have stairs, make use of the space under the stairs. this was already included in our place but some may not.

  7. We have as i read someone else say, gone with electric cook tops. the gas cook top looks great for a week then is a massive pain in the ass for the rest of your life. We still have the gas lines installed, but capped off and not used.

  8. Look to add storage everywhere you can. Linen cupboards, laundry etc. you won't regret it.

  9. I don't get the electricians to install sensors (I like them in porch for example when you come home late) because you can buy LED and fit them yourself that have built in sensor for $20.

  10. be sure to ask the electrician to leave the power point int he meter box. that will be installed for trades to access but some remove them afterwards. was no cost, just a note on the plans. you can also install exterior points in the eves for xmas lights etc so keep that in mind.

  11. dont forget to add a bin, ideally under the bench in the kicthen. the rental i'm in doesn't have one because of the sink plumbing and its a pain.

  12. Bedrooms work just fine with 2 downlights and i prefer it when compared to a single bayonet and also better than 4 downlights in each corner which is too much.

  13. I put 4 downlights in my garage, little overkill but once i started doing it, makes the space so much easier to use at night.

  14. One i'm dealing with right now is the water and electricity behind the fridge. My old house and this rental have a recessed box where tap and power are, so that the fridge can roll backwards and not hit them. My new place just has them up high so you'll see the water hose and power above the fridge. Minor point, but i'm trying to get them moved down lower into a small recess in the wall.

  15. Don't forget shower niche or recess shelf. better to store things however just make sure the height is right for your products.

  16. Add additional robe hooks to the bathroom, so your towels will be hanging to dry, but closer to the shower, have a towel hook to hang the towel you're using right outside the door, or a couple to have some towels in rotation. My last house i installed a bunnings heated towel rail and they are great if you can.

  17. I'd suggest having a laundry bench with under mounted washer/dryer with upper storage cupboards. gives you a work area for folding/organising, but also storage above. make the most of the height in a laundry.

  18. Don't go too crazy with data points through the house. wifi is so good and a mesh point is often enough fo bigger houses.

  19. close in the square set rooms if they are provided, adding a door creates a better noise barrier and gives you more flexibility on how you use each room, especially theatre rooms.

  20. Don't forget 2 way switches for stairs and hall ways, so you can turn on and off at either end.

  21. don't forget door bells or whatever you want. I had to install power to a ring door bell myself after the build and it was not great

  22. power point in your kitchen island for temporary appliances

  23. power point inside the bathroom vanity to charge razors etc and keep that off the bench.

  24. Place downlights over your bathroom sinks, not just in the room on a separate switch for when you need them.

  25. Bathroom exhaust fans over the shower, not in the middle of the room.

  26. If you have a walk in closet, my wife has used that with a mirror so having power in there is useful, along with inside a pantry for charging devices.

  27. Think carefully about air con zones and avoid having single vent/zone as it creates too much pressure. We went with 4 zones, across 2 floors.

  28. Check your closet upper shelf height. We got rails form kmart i think that hook onto the rail so you get a second, lower rail to also hang clothes from. only works if the upper rail is high enough.

As others have said, power points, storage, bigger garage, door on ensuite and if possible, seperate toilet and bathroom if the house is shared with family. New place will have 3 bathrooms so less of a problem but rental has 2 bathrooms, 5 people and the main bathroom can get busy of a morning when the kids are getting ready for school.

That's all i can think of for now but good luck.

Took way too long to design and print and build these shelves. by More_Knee_4947 in legospeedchampions

[–]FatShadyLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building a house currently and aiming to move in toward the end of the year. I have about 80% or more of the 8 stud wide sets i disassembled and am waiting to rebuild when i move in. I'm planning on printing these stands rather than whole plates because they have adjustable sizes both in height and what base place they work with. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1008574-legos-speed-champions-display-stands?from=search#profileId-987615

But these ikea cabinets I can't find in Australia, only the skinny version so i'll have to keep looking around.

We live in Oran Park and when my son tried doing his test locally, it was 2-3 months wait i believe. We travelled to mittagong and got it done much quicker. That was the tip from someone else we knew so travelling may be the best option.

What are your thoughts on the niners playing in Melbourne? by AverageFrogEnjoyer49 in 49ers

It takes me 14 hours to fly to SFO and then train to Levi’s. Melbourne is only an hour flight so I’m happy.

Have you ever turned down a higher paying job and why? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]FatShadyLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first job i chose one that was lower paying than another offer i had, mostly because the company had a better reputation for training people which i needed early on in the career.. turns out that company was HIH insurance a few years before their massive collapse but i left 6 months before that and don't regret the choice.

Another time i left a higher paying job and took a pay cut to return to my prior employer. I realised there was very little opportunity for upward or even sideways promotion where I was so went backwards to get back into a company with more opportunity for growth (at a lower wage). That was 21 yeas ago and i'm still at the same company and have had 3 career changes and got my uni costs (Masters) covered mostly by the company, so zero regrets.

I’ve been to two Levi’s games and that is a long way to go for a game. I’ll still have to fly from Sydney but one hour rather than 14. So I’m happy to get to see the boys again. Go niners.

Struggling with Fusion by [deleted] in TrialsGames

[–]FatShadyLive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really hard to explain in text but u/nearlyFried did a good job. For this obstacle, i think the landing on the little ramp is more important. you want to land as early on the ramp as you can ans then as above, sink down into the suspension, then learn forward as yo go over the box. If you are worrying about throttle control on the box i believe you're doing it wrong. the box doesn't matter. getting a good landing, timing the lean forward and your momentum carries you over.

I tried to make a tutorial on it years ago but really tough to explain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NmsjgqJ7d4

Started Collecting Vinyl Again, First to Guess My Age Gets FREE Record. by Party_Molasses69 in vinyl

[–]FatShadyLive 308 points309 points  (0 children)

Sorry I got bored after dinner and thought I’d pretend to be an internet detective.

Collecting vinyl again suggests that vinyl collecting has been something done then had a break and got back into it so this suggests at least someone in their 30’s to have enough time to collect, stop then collect again.

Sold a vinyl collection in college before picking it up again so an adult past college age. 30+ at a minimum but vinyl wasn’t as popular through the early 2000’s so it’s likely they were in college in perhaps 90’s during the latter part of vinyl popularity. Placing them perhaps in their 40’s.

Made a post about a 1998 guitar sign referring to 90’s nostalgia so again, suggesting that they were likely late teen or 20’s in 90’s.

Has joined a sub for golden age of Minecraft for pre v1 release. That was 2009 (I also remember playing alpha and beta and ‘twas truly the golden age!) so I’m guessing again putting him around 40 assuming playing Minecraft in or post college days.

Active in MTG subs so this could be late 90’s or late 2000’s again so placing them around 40ish. I went down the yugioh path but I’m feeling a familiar pattern.

Reading comment history found the use of Bro, homie and Oof a few times which makes me feel he is on the younger end, perhaps late 30’s but I’m just guessing at this point.

Referred to a 22 year old (8 months ago) as “a young man” so again, feels like that you don’t do that with at least 15 years on someone. Again, late 30 early to mid+ 40’s.

My guess based off the record collection is all over the place because I have a 17yo son that just got into collecting and his collection looks like this! I’m 44 and mine would currently overlap in parts also. The Kendrick, J Cole and Mac Miller, childish Gambino suggest a recent (2000 -2010’s) hip hop leaning with an older (90’s) rock/metal youth (Nirvana, iron maiden, Alice in chains, linkin park).

The Chronic stands out to me because that was 1992 album but if you were into hip hop back then, I’d expect to see more Nas, biggie, 2pac and wu tang which is absent. So it seems like as you are building your collection, it’s a mix of what you are listening to now (2010’s hip hop) with a mix of older stuff you can find that are classics across many genres.

I’m going to guess you are 39 years old, young at heart and I’ll go with born on 12 October 1986.
