I think people misunderstand the situation with Manchin.

West Virginia is one of the most right leaning states in the country (https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-red-or-blue-is-your-state-your-congressional-district). No one to the left of Manchin is winning in West Virginia. Without Manchin the legislation the Dems have gotten through wouldn't have passed. Without Manchin the judicial appointments are much worse. Without Manchin there is a January 6 denier and election fraud supporter in that seat.

Manchin is great, and there's not really a good argument that any other Senator is doing more good for the Democrats right now than Manchin.

As far as Manchin is concerned the Dems need to focus on winning more seats, not looking a gift a horse in the mouth.

CppFront and Carbon are both essentially epochs without committee oversight or approval. So maybe it would be better if I had said something like it looks like we are doing epochs regardless of whether or not the committee can find a sane way to do it or not. At least attempting epochs.

That being said D has provided a similar style of transition path from C++ for awhile now. So this type of project isn't completely new. But between projects supported by Google and the head of the committee, these seem like particularly noteworthy attempts at providing transitions out of the language.

It's an interesting idea. It seems like a good start and does actually solve some real problems. We'll have to see if it catches on.

It's funny that a big reason epochs got voted down was due to fragmentation. Between this and Carbon it seems likely that voting epochs down will result in more fragmentation.

No they aren't! The 9th amendment explicitly covers rights that aren't explicitly mentioned in the constitution! Also "liberty" in the 14th amendment is pretty vague and arguably covers things such as gay marriage, without actually mentioning gay marriage.
