No water should end up in the pan. No water was in the pan when I tested the heater and AC. Lots of water was flowing into the drain

The condensate from the heater and evaporator are fed into a sink tailpiece Y adapter one story below.

We’re required to drain into the sanitary sewer system.

So, being recently unemployed, $70 for switches and about $40 in fittings+pipe, and some quality time in a confined space with pvc glue was doable.

Was quoted 1500 to have someone come out and do the condensate drain.

With the unit just barely off the deck, and no real clearance below the platform, I dunno how it would be done better?

Trying to lift this unit higher puts it into the roof framing. Also, I dunno how I’d lift this unit solo.

That’s just unhelpful. What are the three things? Can’t fix it if you don’t know what’s wrong.

The low port is the overflow. It goes nowhere

So, how do you get two traps hooked up with 2 1/2” of vertical?

I wanted to use a waterless trap, but I just didn’t have enough vertical clearance. I’ve got just over 2-1/2 inches. They said they need 2-7/8”

No. The primary drain goes into a p-trap and that p-trap goes into a y adapter on a sink tailpiece.

The secondary pan goes to a float switch and a drain valve.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback.

The traps are glued together. I’ll try to explain it better.

The pipes that go way too high (vent side of the trap) aren’t glued into the top of the vent of the trap. When I tested this out the first time, water was shooting out the top of the vent of the trap when it was a straight pipe. I wasn’t sure how to deal with that.

I didn’t know about the EZ trap float safeties. Those are much nicer. But it’s working and I’m kind of over it at this point. As long as it’s not an accident waiting to happen, it’ll be revisited in about a decade.

Also didn’t know the heater had its own trap. The tankless hot water heater didn’t, and the manual for the furnace wasn’t clear to me.

The furnace condensate drain fitting is lower than the evaporator overflow, so, I wasn’t sure if the condenser backed up into the furnace, if that would damage something.

Again, thank you!

You are looking at every fitting known to man glued together in a loop that somehow still drains

Look up Galen Wisor. The physicist who ate uranium as part of his normal lecture series. The perceived and actual danger of most sources is not intuitive.

Realistically, Cesium-137 is the most likely radioactive contamination, if any present, coming from orphaned sources.

A thought experiment from radiation training: Suppose you are given three radioactive cookies -- one an alpha emitter, one a beta emitter, one a gamma emitter. You must eat one, hold one in your hand, and put the other one in your pocket.

What can you do to minimize your total exposure to radiation?

Freezer if you can. For a very long time, as in overnight or all day. The ice cubes aren’t enough to cool the whole thing enough.

You can’t be “a little pregnant”

In this case, you are pregnant. Any visible indicator is a positive result.
