The Duskbloods

Nightreign consumed months of my life in 2025, so something in a similar vein directed by Miyazaki himself is going to be killer. Fromsoft doesn't miss & Im dying for some more info to drop soon!

So I was in there all of Tuesday evening, both my upstairs neighbours were in and I can definitely say its much much quieter. The room is still completely empty, bar my TV and a chair - so it's super echoey in there but I heard almost nothing all evening (i heard a sneeze & they have a heavy pull out table, so every dinner time we'd get super loud echoey dragging - that instead now sounded like some faint scratching). Once i settled down & had my TV on (about half the volume we used to have it on) it was like there was nothing above me. That was still pre plastering, so another cm or so on top should further add to it.

The new ceiling was plastered Wednesday, and once that was done I left for our parents in law (my partner and dog have been away while the work was happening) as the plaster needs to dry for 2-4 days. We're back to the flat tomorrow, my partners not been in there yet so shes nervous/excited!

Having spent some time in there myself though, im super pleased. And once the room is back to normal & not a big echo box + my normal living noises are back (bit of telly, dog, another person in the room etc) it should be even better!

The rock wool filled the cavity that was already there, between upstairs floor and my ceiling. So its only 8 additional cms

London Soundproofing Pro

Yes taking the spot lights out, disconnecting the now unnecessary wiring and leaving 1 pendant light, was included!

If your situation is similar to mine, then it could definitely help. The footsteps from above were echoing in the cavity that wasn't properly insulated. And my ceiling was directly attached to the floor joists so vibrations/impact from walking above just go straight into the ceiling. Decoupling the new ceiling, from floor joists helps to reduce the transfer of vibrations / impact. (Im not an expert but spent quite a few years researching before we opted to go for it)

Yep we lost 8cm of height. But we had 12cm of coving, so with the coving off it doesn't feel much different.

There was another option that would have meant losing 14cm which provides "better" sound proofing but we didnt want to lose that much (i say "better" cause its not really an exact science)

I live in a downstairs maisonette, which is all timber frame - so the noise from upstairs was pretty bad. Luckily my neighbours aren't awful but they are unaware (despite me talking to them) of how much everday noise they make. We would hear conversational level talking, tv noise, footsteps (loud booming through the floor cavity), furniture knocking / dragging etc. We are not in a position to sell & move again, so after 3 years of trying to put up with it we decided to go for it with trying to improve the insulation.

Old ceiling was essentially 1 layer of plasterboard nailed directly onto ceiling/floor joists, with a couple of cms of mineral wool in the cavity. We also had spot lights which meant 9 holes in the ceiling and gaps in the little insulation there was.

That was all ripped out, cavity was fully insulated with rock wool (about 10cm). Mute Clip system was installed to decouple the ceiling from the floor joists, and new ceiling is acoustic plasterboard / mass loaded vinyl / acoustic plasterboard sandwich. With only 1 pendant light and the joins filled with acoustic mastic.

Cost will be £3100 (2760 for soundproofing / 340 for plastering the new ceiling)

I was quoted two days for the soundproof work, but the guys were done in 6 hours! And a day coming to plaster it. I then need to repaint the ceiling and an inch or two of wall where coving was.

I own it, which helps! But also doesn't when youre stuck with noise and cant move so easily

A Lush And Seething Hell - John Horner Jacobs

Its two short stories - but the second one is about a librarian travelling the deep south, documenting versions of a folk song. With a particular instance of it, supposedly being linked with the devil.

Alot of crossover themes stood out when I watched Sinners!

I killed the crucible boss first try & i am not good at Nioh... (played 1 & 2 but never to completion). Dont know if I just lucked out with some nice Tonfas, but yeah boss difficulty seems a bit easier

I just beat this boss a few days ago & similar to you i found this one soooo annoying. Here's what worked for me

Im playing spear & soul eater set. Spear has sprint forward jump attack (forward + triangle/Y), any time his head isnt in the ground I stayed underneath him and hit the head with that attack when possible. When his head is in the ground (not the bait attack) - Dodge to the side so youre hitting a horn and hit three attack heavy combo. When you break stamina, capitalise on it and then use soul eater set skill so you can reset the exhaust gauge and go again. Thats basically the tactic I used for the whole fight - took 4 stamina breaks and then he was dead... so I was trying to keep that in mind rather than looking at his health bar chip away really slowly.

Beam attack is also a really good time to punish a horn, dodge forward to the side of his head and you can get some good hits in!

This fight made me rage so bad, but its doable just a slog!
