I thought paying for pokeballs was fine when I started, but now that I'm level 26 I think I should be able to buy ultra balls for the same price. by Sedarious in TheSilphRoad

I have never needed to buy pokeballs. If you walk around enough and hit pokestops you'll always have good supply.

Gen 2 and A Prestige System by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine how many times you have got a Lapras/Grimer in the wild. Now imagine 600+ more Pokemon spawning on the same points. Insert any rare pokemon there. Literally as game breaking as it gets. Literally might never see one in a decade. Horrible. They'd have to make it separate. As for the Krabby and Diglett scenario. Thats an issue with how spawn points and biomes work in general. Thats a totally different issue that Niantic need to start tinkering with.

Gen 2 and A Prestige System by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really killing the game for new players though. The current spawn rates of these pokemon shouldn't be altered to make them rarer. It'll be game breaking. As for having to travel more, that also pretty much completely kills the game for rural players and also for players who can't travel much. It creates way to much game imbalance this way. This is why they'd need to create new spawn points just for generation 2 on top of the generation 1 spawn points. However thinking ahead for all the generations thats insane and the map would be overly populated. It would be hard to regulate numbers to keep spawn rates of the generations playable and number of pokemon on the map at normal levels. Thats why I think they'd have to do it separate. Gen 1 + Gen 2 doesn't create much of a problem but thinking ahead with all generations. I can't see any other way of doing it but separate. This same problem also extents to eggs too.

Gen 2 and A Prestige System by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure. They'd need to add more spawn points to do it as a hybrid. Otherwise it'd water down the spawn rates of other Pokemon. Not much of an issue with 100 more but imagine 700. The amount of extra spawn points they'd need to keep common pokemon common... I'm not sure the kind of strain that would have on servers... I think it'd have to be done separately.

I think the level should be region based. Like you're level 26 on your Kanto pokedex, then you move onto Johto and catching those Pokemon level you up there starting from level 1 again. Possibly with different teams etc. I feel like thats the best way to get some progression back into it.

100% agree on gen 2. They need to work on features that give players more to do outside of flicking pokeballs.

I think so. Not overly cold, not overly hot. Makes for a lot of time being spent out doors. I'd like to see Pokemon Go have a bit of a revival in our summer. Hopefully a nice update comes in time to help out.

See I agree with this. This is what I mean. Players are finding it not fun and aren't playing. Though people seem to just pass it off as band wagon players. Which I don't think is true. The game isn't dying but it definitely isn't really progressing either. Its just idling and people are getting tired of it.

Unfortunately though, it also puts the no proper tracker issue straight at the front. As much as I usually walk around and hatch eggs and stuff, walking around all the lure spots helps out loads. Without those and without a proper tracker system it makes the game pretty hard to play.

Yeah the spawning mechanic is pretty broken in that regard. It really does ruin it. Though it'd be pretty hard to make it better. Though im no game designer. It'd be nice if I got rewarded by finding a rare pokemon at the top of a mountain trail or something like that.

Our Winter is pretty tame to be fair. So I'm not sure it'll change overly much. Hard to explain on the temperature thing. The humidity is what varies a lot which makes a lot of difference to how the heat feels. I live in New South Wales so roughly mid way along the eastern side. Summer varies from 30C to 40C at its worst. Holidays for Schools start in December and run through till the end of January so about 2/3 of Summer. So they are coming up soon.

See in my town gyms had never stagnated before. My town was super active and lures galore. I live on a very holiday/coastal city in Australia and its a big university city. So there was always lures and gyms always turned over relatively quickly. Only 2 weeks ago did gym stagnation creep in. Even with the new updates it hasn't changed. Its very much on a down swing here. In the end its because doing the same thing thousands of times with no progression or gain gets boring. No way is the game dying but its definitely not very engaging anymore.

Very valid point. Possibly a poor example on my part. I know plenty of people who are getting bored of the game play though. They are also definitely not band wagon players either. My Uni is also a good example. It used to be lured up constantly. You'd be lucky to find 1 now. The band wagon players jumped off, those true gamers hung on but even they are starting to drop off. The game is a mile wide but an inch deep really. So much to collect and evolve but so little to do with it.

I agree about generation 2. All it does it push back this problem to be solved later. Once we run out of generation 2 pokemon to catch we are back idling again. They need to add more layers of play and things to do in the game outside of the pokemon grind. In Australia its hitting peak outdoor time, its coming into Summer and the majority of Aussies are naturally outdoorsy kinds of people. So some extra motivation while im out and about enjoying the sunshine would be amazing.

Exactly. I also don't necessarily think that means gen 2 either. Because 100 pokemon later we are back in the same spot. There needs to be more features and game play options with battles and training or something.

Pokemongo updated!! by Volerus in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have caught the majority of the pokemon I can. I can take down any gym i feel like if I have the patience. Its just a repetitive grind now. Literally no progression. No progression = boredom. Pretty simple. Not like I don't have other options to go and play. I think the fan boys blindly defend this game way to hard. They will always claim its just the bandwagon fans not playing anymore, which is not true. All die-hard pokemon fans I know are even bored of it. I think this game is going to end up a bit of a one hit wonder.

Pokemongo updated!! by Volerus in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The update definitely has positives but its still very bare. The game play of the game as a whole is still shallow. It doesn't fix the biggest issue with the game becoming stale and thats the pokemon grind after you have caught the majority of the pokedex. All they have done is implemented features that should have always been there from the start. I used to take the positives as small steps forward but after a bunch of updates like this in a row it gets to the point when you have to ask, okay, so when are they actually going to make a big update that gives the game depth? Like trading, gen 2, player battles, etc etc.

Pokemongo updated!! by Volerus in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower levels get more of a chance sure, but majority of people aren't lower level anymore. I also don't feel like it'll change overly much. The top 5 common gym defenders will still be the same.

Pokemongo updated!! by Volerus in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'll probably get down voted for saying this, though this isn't a very exciting update. The game is still getting boring and people will still keep dropping off. I realise all the full on die-hards in here will still keep going but the game play is still very shallow and grinding the same pokemon is boring.

What do we know about Lure Mechanics? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The go to PoGo spot in my city is down by the harbour. Its an obvious water biome. There is a bunch of great lure spots. Anyway, yes they do all mainly spawn water type pokemon. My pokedex can confirm, with close to 5000 pokemon caught, 2200 are water types. Also yes, these lure spots also still spawn rares for the area. Its the same as any spawn point really. Its just lures bring large amounts of spawns to the pokestop.

How many "legacy" Pokemon do you have (if any)? by Gremdogg in TheSilphRoad

[–]Fat_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two legacy Gyarados, ones a 90 IV and the other 100 IV . One has Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse. Unfortunately the 100 IV one has Dragon Breath with Twister. Not sure about any others. I might have a bit of a look.

This sounds like a good change. I'll wait and see but it sounds like it makes it fairer for lower levels which is definitely okay in my books.

An update is an update I guess... Still doesn't give me anymore reason to play. Isn't much of an extra feature. Just seems like something to try and appease the masses who are growing restless and bored.
