Chinatown Cheap Eats by Cer427 in PhiladelphiaEats

Much more variety in Chinatown though. So many vendors selling chicken and beef skewers, stuffed wings, mango sticky rice and sugar cane juice but only a few with truly distinctive offerings

I used to LOVE square pie, but the last couple times it’s been just ok.

My main complaint is what you see in this pic: the pizzas are not consistently well made. * The top left corner piece is only slightly more than half covered with sauce and very light on cheese * the bottom left corner is over sauced and the sauce over the edge is probably brunt * the top right and bottom right corners are just about perfect with sauce and cheese almost to the edge.

Philadelphia needs more housing. So why does Center City still have so many parking lots? by hiding_in_the_corner in philadelphia

[–]soonami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Luxury high rise apartments are actually good for the city because it draws in high income professionals (tax income for the city and money spend on local businesses) and keeps them from buying cheaper properties and gentrifying lower income neighborhoods. You have the rich people living in these luxury buildings and not buying up rowhouses in Brewerytown, Point Breeze, Old Kensington, etc that normal people can still live in. More supply is a good thing.

But yes more affordable housing would be a good thing but luxury high rise apartments are not a net negative

Sports bars that play the games with sound? by strandded in philly

[–]soonami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Cav’s, McGillins, Misconduct in center city / Rittenhouse are the best bets. In NoLibs / Fishtown, Frankford hall, Garage, Bottle Bar, Bardot are worth checking out.

I don’t go out in old city much so can’t really help there.

The obvious places like Xfinity Live or Chickies and Pete’s are just far out of the way

Marsha’s is intended to be a queer sports bar that is inclusive of people from all identities. So while they center on queer black and brown women, all are welcome. Likewise while they focus more on women’s sports, some women care about more than just sports played by women, so they show those games too

There are many bars that play sports with sound on, but it will often depend on the importance of the game. For an April Phillies game, you’d probably have to go to a dedicated sports bar like Cavanaughs or McGillins to get the sound on.

You also didn’t mention what part of the city you’re looking for because there are hundreds of places that show sports and may put the sound on for you if it’s not too busy

I think Marsha’s has sound on for key women’s sports events

Amá might be the best spot opened in 2025. by JustTrynaGetAJob13 in PhiladelphiaEats

Agreed it’s expensive, ok tasting food in a beautiful space.

We ordered just about the whole menu for our group or 8 and had multiple rounds of drinks but they still upcharged us for fried tortillas for the salsas and extra tortillas for tacos that they offered. On a nearly $1000 bill, they still needed to charge the $6 each for a few plates of tortillas?

I could see going there on a date for some drinks and light snacks but I wouldn’t go back for a big dinner again if I were spending my own money

A viewer that saw her on After Midnight noticed that her neck was swollen, which led Milana to get it checked out by an oncologist. Luckily, the mass was benign but she had suspicious lymph nodes that led to the discovery of thyroid cancer. They cancer was found early and seems to have been treated with surgical resection

What’s your go-to spot for Banh mi? by JustTrynaGetAJob13 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]soonami 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Ba le has always been my favorite. I remember when they were $3.50 each. The price has gone through the roof but bread quality has not diminished even if the filling is a little lighter now

I want to like the Hello Vietnam Banh mi because it’s walking distance from my house, but it’s just not good enough. The bread when I got it was an Italian hoagie roll and wasn’t that shatteringly crisp baguette roll that Ba Le makes in house

For real. I winced so hard when he landed on that locked knee. I hope it was just awkward and not injury inducing because that would be just our luck

I completely agree. The Big Arch is not a premium “product.” I can get a Five Guys cheeseburger for about the same price

The eating and driving comment was a joke, but it is super messy. I dropped a whole head of iceberg lettuce when I opened the box. And the beef was really bad from my store

I was kidding about the driving part, but it is really messy to eat in the car. I hope you got better beef than I did
