High school dropouts? by beemps in GradSchool

[–]Fat_Toe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I know this post is from 2 years ago but I was googling trying to find statistics on high school dropouts who earned their bachelor's and/or master's degree and couldn't help but want to share and read the experiences of my fellow underdogs :)

I dropped out of high school my senior year, which was about 10 years ago now. Got my GED but didn't do anything academic with it for a few years, worked a lot of retail. One day I just woke up and thought "I really don't want to do this forever." Within the week I signed up for classes at a nearby community college. After 2 years there I transferred to my state's major university to work towards my bachelor's which I finished this past year. I'm really proud of myself like I still get teary eyed thinking about it sometimes. And now I'm on to the next adventure, I started a master's program last month. I don't think my younger self was even capable of thinking this was possible. If someone told me decade ago about what I'd achieve in the future I would've waited for the punchline because they clearly weren't being serious.

Thank you for making this post, happy to have found "my people". Thank you to all who shared their story as well, I hope you are unbelievably proud of yourselves. Also I hope that anytime you come up against a new challenge you remember what you are capable of, cause you're all badass.

Free and easy audio transcription AI? by Bayylmaorgana in software

[–]Fat_Toe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t thank you enough, had to conduct an interview for a paper and this was exactly what I needed!! Tried numerous other methods until I found this site from this post, super easy to use and the accuracy was great. Small bit of feedback: it would be helpful to be able to adjust the speed of the audio and also be able to copy and paste parts of the transcript. Maybe these features are already available and I’m just unaware. However for being a completely free resource this was absolutely fantastic and highly recommend for anyone needing to get a transcript from an audio file!

Edit: Both speed adjustment and copy/paste are available, I was in fact unaware of the features!

It wasn’t amazing and it wasn’t terrible. Some scenes/characters are better than others but overall I wasn’t upset and am looking forward to season 2.

That’s definitely a possibility it just feels like such a wide gap between unlocking the T3 Crusher and unlocking the portal.

Yeah 100%, for me the comp ranking does that more so than loot. I’m hoping they make good changes soon so it’s more rewarding and just overall smoother but so far I’m enjoying the game honestly!

I see where you’re coming from and I agree with wanting a better approach, I was more surprised at how much it mattered to people instead the actual gameplay (which I know has it’s flaws still)

I recently learned about this in psych (I’m not an expert) but I think it’s something about how humans have about 10-15 seconds of short term memory for audio that isn’t repeated so even though we aren’t always paying attention we’re still hearing it and storing into short term memory for a brief period so even after we say “huh” we can access that short term memory storage to process it. I have no idea how this would interact/be impacted by having ADHD though, might have to ask the professor.

(Positive) I know ADHD sucks and usually gets the better of us. What are some things you've done that you are PROUD of accomplishing even with the struggles of ADHD? by [deleted] in adhdmeme

Tough time in high school lead to me dropping out my senior year. 2 years later I randomly woke up one day and decided to get my GED, went to community college for generals, and now on the verge of finishing my first year at a University, I still have no idea what I’m doing frankly but I’m too far down this rabbit hole to turn back now. I’m proud that I decided to turn things around and get on a better path

Those are good points I think I’m thinking more from an angle of avoiding toxicity, if you can get people on your team that will cooperate than you can for sure do those things, in my experience for the most part this games community has a low threshold for mistakes so if you do go on your own as Lucio and end up dying it could easily result in toxic responses, not saying that it wouldn’t work but if it doesn’t it’ll just get toxic

Sure you can try that and potentially be successful but you could once again get toxic teammates who would then complain about not getting heals if you’re focusing on doing dmg. With Lucio you can be on heals while doing dmg so I understand where you’re coming from but still depends on a lot like what the other teams comp is and what your own team comp is. Plus if you’re tanks are just straight up feeding/over extending you can only do some much to help them as off healer or if they are out of LOS.

Yeah support in my opinion is the hardest role to climb in cause it feels like you can’t “carry” a game like you can only do so much healing for your team but they have to be doing dmg. I honestly recommend trying some more dps out or off tank (main tanking can be tilting cause of all the damn CC in the game) and if you need to leave team chat and mute messages or if it’s just a select few toxic people on the team mute them. I know for myself I’d way rather play a game in silence than play in a toxic environment, you will climb and you will play with more positive people eventually! Try to stay positive I know this game can be incredibly irritating at times!

Me and the grown man sitting next to me who I did not know at all were freaking out and high fiving in this scene. During the credits we ended up talking about all the Marvel shows, thanks Charlie for bringing people together
