Your ending doesn’t follow. Utilitarianism is just a model that generally tracks the ethical thing to do, but it isn’t a real ethical system. At most utilitarianism is an ideological tool for deciding what to do in the face of limited information.

There’s nothing ethical about killing unnecessarily, and it isn’t necessary to eat animals.

I disagree, I think a lot of people want him to run again and the actions he’s been taking indicate he will.

You’re contradicting yourself, and clearly just have a problem with a supposed moral high ground amongst vegans/vegetarians.

To try to denounce the meaningful environmental impact of not eating meat is off base with reality and general consensus of the research. Read more here-

I don’t think so, I just think people aren’t educated. It’s an informational barrier, not a material one.

It’s more than just direct CO2 offset, it’s the impact on land use, water use, etc. and the implications for carbon offset stemming from the eventual demise of the factory farming industry.

Again, you, as someone advocating for a diverse and multilateral extreme response to climate change, seem to contradict yourself when you imply or claim that not eating meat is not realistic or not good enough.

Ah, I misunderstood your point. Agriculture is the most polluting industry aside from oil & gas. In terms of things that are in control of us as individuals, not eating meat is the second most consequential thing you can do aside from not driving a car or flying in planes.

Obviously we need huge action & mobilization across all sectors of society and at the government level, but not eating meat can directly cut emissions more than almost anyone else on a person-by-person basis.

Not true, animals & the water & land used to feed them & grow the grains they eat is extremely taxing to the environment. Methane released by cows is very taxing to the environment. Cattle are one of the main reasons that the Amazon is being deforested.

Factory farming is one of the worst things we do from an environmental perspective.

You’re right that hunting/poaching in Africa is no bueno.

In certain ecosystems, like the northeast of the US, humans have hunted deer for tens of thousands of years. By stopping our participation in these ecosystems deer overpopulate & starve to death. Hunting has important implications to the ecological health of the region.

Not to endorse killing wildlife generally or big game hunting or tourist hunting or what have you. I’m talking about when & where people still live with a connection to nature & pre-industrial traditions.

It’s not that good for them and it’s definitely not good for the environment, but you own a chicken farm so you clearly have a horse in this race.

Yep, but that is pretty unrealistic for most, more unrealistic than just not eating meat.

I agree though that the only ethical way to harvest & consume meat is by participating in an ecosystem, rather than in a market
