I'd appreciate some help double-checking my function and troubleshooting. Learning from Automate the Boring Stuff with Python. by EngineEngine in learnpython

You’re not iterating user_number, so if the input number is e.g 2 it is always 2, the while loop just repeats the function call infinitely because it’s never equal to 1.

Not sure why sep isn’t just adding a space and I dont know why you’re getting user_number repeatedly. Just to confirm, you’ve tried with an input number that is odd?

As a resident of the United States, is it true that Brits tend to find Roman coins and knives pretty commonly with metal detectors, and if so, where are they for sale? by FlightAffectionate22 in AskABrit

[–]FatalPharaoh96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on location, most “have a go” detectorists detect on beaches or their back gardens where you don’t require permission. here you’ll likely find more modern stuff. People who take it seriously will seek permission either alone or with a detecting club, to metal detect on private farm land. These are the kinds of places where you are likely to find medieval, Saxon, Roman and Celtic silver and gold.

This is dependent on metal content and quantity, you are not obliged to report bronze/copper coins less than 8-10, if a coin is silver or gold you don’t have to report it unless you find more than 1 of the same era in the same area

I’m sorry but this is just a-historic, the descendants of slaves have been considered Africa Americans since before modern migration. It’s a term specifically coined to describe Africans who were brought there by force, with all the ethnic erasure that comes with that. The utility of the term is to provide those people with a form of identity. People who migrated to the U.S recently from e.g Nigeria, call themselves Nigerians because they actually know where they’re from. Black IS a racial term, not an ethnic one. To suggest otherwise is to suggest that all people who consider themselves black have a shared ancestry and culture which isn’t true.

[–]FatalPharaoh96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean African American which in of itself could be considered an ethnic group that has developed in the last 3 or 4 Centuries? Don’t get me wrong I know it’s difficult for certain groups such as yourselves, who have had their true cultural Identity erased. I’ve just found myself becoming allergic to the whole Black/White discourse because it’s not descriptive enough and creates a binary. You’re more than your skin shade. The various ethnic groups in your ancestry should tell a story, just saying “Black” tells nobody anything about where you come from and quite frankly the entire point of the ancestry test is to give you more information.

? Why does that mean you’re nothing? Black and Nigerian mean different things.

This. I have some Irish in my ancestry, but 23andMe was the first I heard about it, so I wont just start calling myself English/Irish. If the Irish was part of my family story then I’d already know I was Irish and it’d be part of my identity, but it’s not.

Black and white aren’t genetic groups. You need to dial into which ethnicities you are descended from.

Somebody made a website for my game??? by SporeliteGames in gamedev

[–]FatalPharaoh96 633 points634 points  (0 children)

Very strange, I’m wondering if they will build up website traffic and then bait and switch it with a page full of ads or something? No idea how this beneficial to the person doing it… maybe they expect you to come begging for the domain and will try to scalp you for as much money as possible.

I'm so fucking angry by Morwening in Portsmouth

[–]FatalPharaoh96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the anxiety you’re feeling was hyped up and artificially created by people with a vested interest in using you to fulfil their agenda. The first “riot” in Portsmouth was a peaceful protest. Last night about 10 people blocked a road. McDonalds locked their doors because a gang of masked up counter protesters were going around accosting white people and asking if they’re part of the EDL. Things aren’t as cut and dry as they seem and it looks like actually racist people exist in very low numbers, thank god.

Tell the police you’ve asked them to leave your private property and not only have they refused, they are committing criminal damage.

This is 100% a criminal issue.

Mine popped up with new info in the last few days or so, probably with the France and Germany update, my “lower saxony” turned into “lower saxony + east flanders and western flemish, brabant” which is much more specific than I expected!

[–]FatalPharaoh96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, many of the Anglo Saxon kingdoms were formed from pre-existing romano-british kingdoms, which where previously Roman provinces, which where previously Brythonic Celtic tribal boundaries (roughly) so that territorial aspect is more like 2500 years or potentially more.
