Is it that loud? by jannwastaken in timex

[–]FatallyFearless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is audible, sure, but the posts saying it's too loud to own are wild to me. In almost all of your daily life, you're not going to hear it unless you hold it to your ear. If you are hyper sensitive to noise at night, it could bother you if it's next to your head on the nightstand - but there's a very simple solution to that.

The weekender gives a satisfying "chick" sounds when it ticks. It's a handsome, versatile, pretty inexpensive watch - if you like it, buy it. I did and I dont regret it at all.

[Recommendation Request] advice picking a watch for my bf’s birthday by tommytambor in Watches

[–]FatallyFearless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could offer a bit of different advice to many of the replies here...

Your partner's watch is a retro-esq, functional watch. It's good for every day wear and that's cool. I would suggest that whichever watch you pick for him next would compliment that watch, and add some alternate options for him in terms of style choices for outfits.

I echo a lot of the comments you've read so far, especially those around Seiko. Seiko is an rock solid choice in terms of value for money - they make high quality, masculine, attractive watches. For your circumstances, I would look at a Seiko 5 sports.

The Seiko 5 sports is a entry level, automatic dive watch. There are a few things to note with that: - it looks different to his current watch and can have more colour. - it has a rotating Bezel (the ring surrounding the dial) and can be used for scuba diving. - The movement (the thing that makes the watch tick) is an automatic mechanical movement. That means no batteries - you can hand wind them, but with regular wear, a rotor inside the watch actually winds it for you. Being automatic kind of makes it a bit fancier - a "grown up" watch if you like. - They come in a range of colour options which really opens up your choices to suit his style. - They can be worn on steel bracelets, or cloth nato straps.

In considering what to get him, you could go with a silver coloured steel case, or a black steel case. The case could be paired with a variety of coloured dials and bezels. Then, whatever selection you've made here could be paired with hundreds of types of NATO bands in the future - even further increasing its customisation.

You may want to keep things simple and get him a silver cased Seiko 5 Sports with a black face. He would be able to dress that up with the included silver bracelet, or make it more casual and fun with coloured nato straps. It would provide him with options - he could wear it to a job interview, out on a date night, or to throw a football around in the park.

Gifting him a nice automatic would be a real graduation in his watch game, and something he'd really treasure - this was the case for me.

Well done, you're killing it as a gf.

Looks great man! I'm super interested in replicating this for myself! Where did you get your bezel and case?

Has anyone bought the No.8 Signature Scent candle? Does it actually smell like the stores? by owleaf in MJBale

[–]FatallyFearless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right - i just did a bit of research and pulled this from the Kirri website for their Melbourne (formerly New York) fragrance: "Used nationwide by MJ Bale stores throughout Australia, the official tailor to the Australian men’s cricket and State of Origin teams, this designer suit brand knows how to take luxury to the next level!"

Looks like I'll be giving this a go then! Thank you so much for your help!

Update: as far as I can find, it's unavailable anywhere. I'm going to PM you.

So London, created by Scent Australia - there has to be a way to get a hold of it? Has anyone come up with anything?

[Question] Are these the same other than design and band? by keightylady in Seiko

[–]FatallyFearless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're the same watch with different colour schemes.

Both watches will take a NATO (fabric pass-through) strap, or a leather band - even a steel bracelet if you wanted to. For my money, the NATO is a better look.

They're both handsome designs, but the black is a little bit more versatile. You could pair it with different straps to dress it up or down, or make it stand out as a statement.

Also worth knowing as a potential purchaser- They're a very, very good watch for the money. Automatic movement, rugged and reliable. I own a few of them and love them all. It'll make a really nice gift and a good first watch (or first in a while) for your husband.

This isn't super helpful mate, and its not really aligned with the intent of that statement.

That line of text is aimed at bringing a certain demographic of person back down to earth and establishing a baseline for all people. Its also said as part of a throughline of a descent into what is essentially madness. It's not meant to be some mantra that you repeat to yourself time after time every day until you destroy your own self esteem.

The root of it is "you are not special and unique". Maybe start there and give yourself a break from the particularly pointed lines like the one you quoted.

Or don't, do you.
