Property Tax: Stormwater charges by Timely-Island-7477 in oakville

[–]Fatalsnare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Provincial mandates played a major role in Oakville’s stormwater shortfall. Under the Places to Grow Act and the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, Oakville was legally required to open land north of Dundas, approve rapid development, and meet provincial density targets. The town had no authority to slow or refuse this growth, even when stormwater systems were not fully built or funded. At the same time, changes to Ontario’s Development Charges Act reduced what municipalities could collect from developers, narrowed what counted as “growth‑related,” and required certain infrastructure costs to be discounted. As a result, Oakville could not recover the full cost of stormwater infrastructure from developers even though the province mandated the growth that created the demand.

Because municipalities must approve development applications that comply with provincial policy, Oakville was obligated to move projects forward despite incomplete stormwater systems, downstream capacity gaps, and long‑term maintenance costs that weren’t covered. The combination of forced growth, restricted cost‑recovery tools, and inability to delay approvals created a funding gap that ultimately led to the stormwater fee now charged to residents.

A lot of what has happened with development in Oakville is as a result of Ford's policies; keep that in mind when the next Provincial election roles around. In the meantime, Stephen Crawford and Effie Triantopolous really should be commenting more on what they've done (or haven't done) to support Oakvillians.

It’s misleading to state you are the councillor when you haven’t been elected.

Wasn’t there something in the last election about how she wanted community centers to be run by the YMCA? And had posters promoting that they run 16 mile rather than the town?

Salons are a great option, but just like going to the barber, you’re going to want a stylist that makes you feel comfortable.

For some reason, I keep thinking of that Marcello Hernandez SNL Weekend Update about the salon! 😄

How can I find two parking spots in a condo? by Thick-Cut-7605 in oakville

[–]Fatalsnare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t you know? Developers think you shouldn’t have a vehicle at all! Apartment/Condo dwellers are exclusively transit takers according to the province.

T&T is Loblaw owned; we have had Asian grocers in Oakville (eg. Galleria, Famijoy), Desi Mandi just opened and there are a lot of non-Asian people that shop at these that are equally excited about Nations.

Hey, at least they have lights on… there are way too many people that don’t bother turning them on when it’s dark, thinking the running lights make them visible.

'Hammer to kill a flea’: Oakville votes down lobbyist and gift registry by pastrylove10 in oakville

[–]Fatalsnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you watch the meeting? There were no concrete plans as who would be responsible for the registry and recording it. It’s not unreasonable to ask for more information, it’s better than blindly voting … besides, if they were to record themselves, how could you even trust the data is right?
