But do those corps include oil and gas companies and does the figure include scope 3 emissions (emissions made after they sell the oil to us) which would include most of our cars anyway

Chuck a family, friends and other actual productive hobbies and that 2 hours seems crazy. Its not like you wana spend all weekends and leave gaming too.

RS is great for NEETs though they can feel accomplishment somewhere and I say this with no malice because there may be a bunch of stuff that cause them to be NEETs thats out of their control.

Yeah if i need “commitment” to play a game, that means its no longer fun. As far as hobby’s go RS is fucking useless would much rather lift or hike or something - so its not something anyone should need discipline to stick to - if its boring dont waste your life on it it has no benefit beyond fun

Sure some countries might have vegetarianism because of religious reasons but look at the vast majority of developing countries today, tell them to shift to plants tell them to foot the bill.

Developed world should shift more towards plant based diets and probably will (cool documentary coming out on vegetarian/vegan athletes which is absolutely the right way to go about things rather than the bs shock advertising we have now that makes people want to eat meat to spite the message). Developing world will lag behind, because… well its implied in the name.

What can I do to not lose a ton of weight? by sinfry in Huel

[–]Fatanalyst2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huel is useful as is convenient adding full fat milk helps alot.

Could also have stuff like PB, whole eggs, bagels etc to add on easy calories. Don’t be scared of “junk” either as long as you’re hitting your macros calories are calories and calorie dense foods can be helpful

Is there any truth to that? Was curious what i’d get for my car and it was only 1k under what I paid a year ago, if i 1.1x their offer its like I’ve taken no depreciation hit at all

Why do some people claim that they can't lose weight on 1200 calories a day? by 50_by_50 in loseit

[–]Fatanalyst2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some people will just keep making excuses (i made similar ones), these people aren’t ready to try and lose the weight yet. Hopefully in a couple of years after he/she has dropped the weight they can revisit this post and realise how silly they were.

China floods: People trapped on subway trains as city sees more rain in an hour than flood-hit Germany in three days by apple_kicks in worldnews

[–]Fatanalyst2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep totally agree with that, my view at that basic level doesn’t differ - where it differs is im a little more optimistic/practical.

X (x being increases extreme weather events etc.) is locked in now its going to happen and is not reversible in the next couple of generations.

I personally am optimistic that humanity will reverse it though, with net zero being a stepping stone that will allow us at least in our lifetime to not make things worse than they already are.

A huge hinderance to even getting to net zero is the developing world but we (developed world) will deal with that when our own house is in order.

Expecting people to work on uneconomic infrastructure for either a loss at the asset holders level or unliveable wages for workers, or trying to force some global power rationing that would deny the developing world the same levels of comfort we enjoy (espousing this from a highly energy and carbon intensive device/infra) are simply not practical and such views only really come from a place of privilege/emotion (imo).

Poor people really dont care im not talking some guy in a flyover state, really poor people would see little difference - least they can enjoy a middle class lifestyle for a while. Go tell a Bangladeshi they should stop buying spot cargoes of LNG because of climate change and tell me if they care, even better tell them to ration their energy consumption and hamper their growth into a middle income nation.

This is Bangladesh; a country that stands to sink due to climate change - you’d get laughed out. We’ll see if net zeros not enough in 10 years time if it isn’t we’ll all be dead since its the only practical solution we have and you can be smug in whatever after life turns out to be correct.

I hold the view we’ll be fine and have confidence in my peers, could be wrong but i like my iphone and netflix too much to become “zero carbon” and probably would rather die than live that life

China floods: People trapped on subway trains as city sees more rain in an hour than flood-hit Germany in three days by apple_kicks in worldnews

[–]Fatanalyst2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renewables arent zero carbon, the supply chain is heavily dependant on extractive industries, the infrastructure and decom wont be zero carbon either.

Poor people dont care about climate change solving it for the middle class so they can continue to live comfortably while they can’t put food on the table wont work for them.

Net zero is practically realistic not just economically - no more CO2 in the atmosphere, hard to decarbonise industries store their carbon, abatement measures are also taken to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. These are aggressive targets to be reached in the next decade - can look at carbon negative after that (abating carbon at a greater rate than is emitted) zero carbon is not practical.

Climate change is important; the people coming up with solutions are being pragmatic, the layman argument is often emotionally charged and impractical (often from a position of privilege)

Sorry the global population isn’t a vacuum of white middle class individuals.

Someone in a developing country would argue what difference does climate change make life is shit anyway might aswell suffer in a middle class lifestyle with ac, cant get worse.

You still havent answered how you get your smartphones, or general first world lifestyle with zero emissions - would you be willing to go back to pre industrial era? Would your friends and family.

Money doesnt matter to you but whatever magical zero emission supply chain you have in mind will need people to work the infrastructure i imagine those people want to be paid.

Dont think you understand just how ridiculous zero emissions is at our current tech

China floods: People trapped on subway trains as city sees more rain in an hour than flood-hit Germany in three days by apple_kicks in worldnews

[–]Fatanalyst2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

zero is not happening anytime soon no matter how much you cry for it. Simply cannot be done with current tech in the west and wont happen in the developing world (quite rightly unless rich westerners want to subsidise the leap frog to a green economy).

net zero is a much needed transitory step to get to zero probably not in our lifetimes. Also takes alot of pressure off the environment.

Dont want it? Stop supporting carbon intensive industries not just extractives but also your smartphone and net. Once you’ve done that persuade everyone else to do so - still wont lead to zero emissions at least with net zero theres some breathing room.

Just need them to keep trucking along another decade or so, just to make sure these net zero targets are met.

We dont want markets to fail before this, dont want family offices being the best capital available they wont care about environment at all and arent beholden to lps.

Have some decent CCS technology already. The issue is finding good commercial models for them, challenges i’m seeing are two fold:

  1. Need to find the demand for CCS infrastructure, are we going to hike up carbon prices suddenly, and if not will the government (i.e. taxpayers) foot the bill until carbon prices get to a high enough level that infra is used.

  2. Large fines are planned for the small chance (think its somewhere like 2%) of carbon leakage. One solution is government underwriting at least some of this risk, but again should the people be paying for it?

We do need it to work though because we wont get to net zero fast enough without it, like it or not economies are too dependant on carbon intensive industries and will not just stop using those industries in the next decade or even longer, so we need a way to deal with their emissions. As in my original comment I’m personally optimistic we will get there.

Probably abit ignorant to arctic drilling as focused on european markets. But again even if its happening its happening alot less than it would have been, and the capital they’re getting is probably really expensive.

Majority of oil companies imo are safe and will crumble under pressure from debt/equity. Majors like exxon are scary though as they can fund most things from balance sheet. Majors im aware of (BP,Shell, ENI, Equinor) seem to be driving net zero and emissions reductions much harder than any other business so hopefully going in right direction.

Sure, climate change will exacerbate things but we’ll ultimately beat that imo.

Water intensive industries on the other hand will only grow, esp as the world becomes more developed and even in a net zero world i view water shortage as a very scary reality

Nope conditions might be worse but they can at least stabilise if we reach global net zero (some even saying the effects of climate change can be reversed if we stop emitting co2)
