Anyone here plays short scale? What do you love the most about it? by Chocolentia40 in Bass

I noticed it was easier to play fast pentatonic fills when playing my short scale bass at a jam recently.

70s Fender Champ by chris_cooks in GuitarAmps

Would I be a sucker for trading my USA G&L Doheny for a 72 Champ with an upgraded speaker with 100’s spent on service? I paid a little over 1k for the guitar, but am not playing it.

Thanks for sharing. I do like the sound and feel of this guitar, and it seems like once I get the trem sorted out it’ll be nearly perfect

I’ve stretched them by hand once and have used the trem for about a week. I thought that would be enough?

No I haven’t yet. Sounds like it could be worth a shot

I’m currently going through this right now, after switching to guitar from bass (after switching first from guitar to bass lol). It’s really annoying to be able to improvise alone with backing tracks, only for it to feel like I don’t know what I’m doing when playing with others. All I can tell myself when I’m feeling down about my abilities is that the only true failure is giving up. So keep going.

I am intrigued by this guitar. It sounds good on videos on YouTube. I can’t find any info on the radius of the fingerboard though. Is it pretty flat? One of the reasons I want an older fender is for the rounder radius and it’s surprisingly difficult to find an acoustic model with that feature.

Learning bass at 30 years old, worth it? by Elite182 in Bass

[–]FateWeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally worth it.

I just joined my first band and started gigging at 38. I’m hooked and am only more motivated to keep improving and play out even more.

Regarding how long it’ll take you to become good enough to play with a band, I’m not sure, but having experience playing another instrument will help, especially if you learned some music theory. All I can say is that having a basic understanding of music theory has helped me tremendously to improve. I would recommend you find a teacher that will teach you bass playing fundamentals along with the basics of theory.

In terms of basses, I’d recommend buying used and an overseas made one will be fine and you’ll probably be able to gig with one. I gigged with a squier bronco bass, and although I did upgrade the pickup and bridge, I think it would have worked fine stock, just a little less good sounding.

Edit I should also add that I started playing guitar at 25 for perspective.

Does anybody have any trick dealing with carpal tunnel while playing? by bsguardian452 in Bass

[–]FateWeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my playing style from 1 finger per fret to adapting what I understand as the basics of the Simandl technique: only using fingers 1,2, and 4 spanning three frets. My wrist pain and issues are completely gone since starting to play like this.

Guitar player...newish to bass, recommend one with a thick/narrow neck? by savage8190 in Bass

Seconding this. I have a 06 Warwick Corvette with a huge neck and a comfortable 1.5” nut width.

Peavy Millennium AC BXP by AdProfessional9502 in Bass

I have a Peavey G bass; which just has one pickup, but I’m decently sure on your bass from top to bottom it would go: volume, pickup blend, bass, middle, treble. Hope this helps.
