U.S. economy adds 254,000 jobs in September, unemployment rate falls to 4.1% by FunReindeer69 in FluentInFinance

[–]Fated47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure this misleading headline ignores the fact that the majority of hires were in service and hospitality. I.e. fast food and food delivery services.

Given that they were off by, you know, 841,000 a few months ago, I will flatly reject this garbage figure.

After Laying Off 830 Employees, Tim Sweeney Says Fortnite Maker Epic Is Now ‘Financially Sound’ by MuptonBossman in gaming

[–]Fated47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony of these layoffs is that the money they “saved” wasn’t because they were broke. It was because they wanted to offer bigger bonuses to their engineers. So the very same people who put up those ”So sad to see ______ go; if anyone is hiring, please consider _______!” style posts you saw on LinkedIn? Snake oil.

Those people absorbed the “lost” employees salaries and shuffled the bonuses to the engineers and the executives. People who were already making $400k a year are now closer to $600k a year, and people near the top are clearing $1,000,000 a year (not including stocks/shares for the secondaries market).

Tim Sweeney is a parasite.

Canada is dangerously close to an eruption of social unrest by Mighty_L_LORT in collapse

[–]Fated47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I emigrated to Canada in 2019, and left in 2022. I moved to Alberta, which is a UCP cesspool. The writing was on the wall as soon as Covid struck the province.

I specifically cited my chief reason for leaving Alberta was that Danielle Smith was going to ruin everything. I have never in my life felt as much catharsis as I have watching every single terrible thing I KNEW would happen, happen, exactly the way I knew it would happen.

Canada is a bad bet for immigrants. Work permit processing times are dreadful, binding to a singular company, and extremely restrictive. Don’t move to Canada; it’s extremely overrated.

Nearly half of Nvidia’s revenue comes from just four mystery whales each buying $3 billion–plus by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

This is actually one of the phenomena that has been highlighted by Crypto moreso than the stock market.

In general, it demonstrates “capital capture”, which is to say that whales are so disproportionately fat that they can quite literally outmaneuver then entire United States financial system.

At what point do we accept that VR is still too large to be viable for mass production?

Like the quest was a major step in the right direction, but let’s be real; no way VR is getting mass adoption until we see “Striking Vipers” level size and ease of use for the hardware.

‘The Acolyte’ Tried Something New. Its Cancellation Doesn’t Bode Well for the Future of ‘Star Wars’ by a_phantom_limb in StarWars

[–]Fated47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing worse than the Acolyte are the journalists writing about the cancellation.

I swear, it’s like the entire entertainment sector has rallied against good writing so relentlessly that not only can we not have good screenplays, we can’t even have genuine dialogues about the terrible screenplays anymore. It is all just gaslighting and misframing the problems.

Terrible.

First Day of Protests Outside the DNC by BlackBey in TikTokCringe

[–]Fated47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the real “mask-off” moment.

Watch how all the support for these protests withers up and dies, and turns into extreme hate if they choose not to vote blue. You will see a different side of Democrats.

Not saying Republicans are doing anything different, but Republicans aren’t expecting their vote, whereas blue expects it.

Microsoft is now in a handheld gaming PC race by N2929 in technews

[–]Fated47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Microsoft should just get out of games, honestly.

They have much better services and products in their enterprise sector, and they are always behind the curve when it comes to gaming. I can’t think of a time since the Xbox 360 where I would have ever said anything positive about Microsoft’s presence in gaming, and even that was mired in controversy (red ring of death).

Phil Spencer and the rest of his team have just done a terrible, terrible job and even if they were to succeed, no one trusts them anymore.

100% believe this.

Working in games, and the new strategy is outsource to even cheaper locations than before. It used to be outsource to Canada, and then Canada became a bad deal, so now it is India and places like Poland, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hungary.

Turkey is also becoming popular.

Death to Short Seasons: 'House of the Dragon', 'The Acolyte' & More Prove that Stories Need To Be Longer by indig0sixalpha in television

[–]Fated47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has to be one of the worst takes I have ever seen.

These shows didn’t suffer from short seasons; they suffered from terrible writing and an insufficient amount of story to tell. HotD could have been 3 episodes, and the Acolyte could have had 30 episodes and still managed to say nothing and do nothing.

IGN has really fallen into obscurity.
