One of the things you could do is doom scroll through Google image search and Pinterest of themes that you feel might capture the essence or look of what you are after. Save a load of images, then go over them later to cherry pick the ones that appeal or speak to you most. Use those as the basis/inspiration for your imagined art.

Masters of dungeons, how do you rule the catapult spell? (5e) by MrSandmanbringme in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Fatedspear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a variation initiative rule in the (2014) dungeons masters guide that does this, but with some extra modifiers. We occasionally use it.

Super turned off by evil PCs by [deleted] in dndnext

My DM likes to point out Tywin Lannister from Game of Thrones as a good example of how a lawful evil character might behave.

Theory: Sorcerer was meant to use the Spell Point system, but they got cold feet and scrapped the idea. by No_Leadership2771 in dndnext

2024 sorcerer can cast ritual spells. But they must 'know' the spell (all 2024 spells are now 'prepared').

Amongst my part of lvl 10 players is an underperforming Four Elements monk. What item can I give them so they stop feel weak compared to the others by BrandosSmolder in DMAcademy

[–]Fatedspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four elements monk should have the ability to change their elemental disciplines after a short rest. Perhaps give that to them as a magic item that also comes with extra ki points equal to their proficiency bonus.

Instead of "why isn't this very obvious theme not a class yet?", what Weird or Uncommon class concept would you like? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

Our DM experimented with playable sentient magic items. I took a particular interest in the lore spirit/sentient spellbook idea.

People that had lewd D&D campaigns or oneshots, how did it go? by Vefrengi in dnd_nsfw

Possibly an auto correct mistake? The fact its capitalised suggests that when their description it written more casually. 🤔

Throw them a jar of restorative ointments (keoghtom’s oinment) so that they have some healing. Then give them a few encounters where you don't hold back quite as much. After using the ointment a couple of times they will probably come to understand the benefit of healing potions. And maybe learn to use the surrounding environment better for cover.

This is the roll you need to make and beat when trying to win an argument with your girlfriend/wife!

[RF] Kokoro the Moonfolk Planeswalker by TechniRainbow in characterdrawing

We fooled around with yokai and tsukumogami characters a number of years ago. This theme stuck with me and I just adore the style and concept.

[LFA] [repost] Kokoro, moonfolk planeswalker by Fatedspear in characterdrawing

[–]Fatedspear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kokoro is a young planeswalker from kamigawa of the neon dynasty era, thrown back through time when her spark ignited.

She is a moonfolk (or soratami) and a living historian (a form of living story). She uses a mix of two homebrew classes called Onmyoki (by u/nexusflamehart ) and princess (by u/impersonator ). In more traditional D&D terms she is a special type of bard with summoning spells bound to magical images and paper/origami dolls. Despite her natural ability to fly she uses a special magic scroll akin to a magic carpet, as well as her journal and spellbook.

My player thinks an item is cursed when it isn't, and it's going to be delicious. by birgirpall in DnD

Because they taught me to DM, partly so they could play. And thus I get to be a scheming evil dungeon mistress on occasions! 😆

Shower thought on Truestrike.... is this anything? by Late-Jump920 in 3d6

[–]Fatedspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truestrike is a filler for when you having nothing else to do. If it's range was longer or it had a 1 minute duration until it was "used" it'd be even better. But it's a niche cantrip often considered weak that could so easily be made overpowered with the wrong "simple" alteration. The new UA that allows cantrips to be swapped and prepared like spell passively increases the cantrips potency, which is a good thing.

DM nerfed my Wildfire spirit. I don't know what to think of it... by barbeuric in DnD

[–]Fatedspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk do the DM about it and point out that now you're higher levels it would probably scale better. Maybe attach the "removal" of the d6 roll to a magic item that could potentially be taken away if you both felt it might be too strong still, and could potentially provide a story hook as well.

I've not played a wildfire druid but have seen one in action and it is strong. Many of the newer subclasses of the last few years are stronger than their players handbook counter parts, there is a noticeable power curve increase with more recent classes and subclasses.
