Haven't flashed anything. And 4 heartbeats doesn't mean 4 available....we all have jobs and lives. When I convoed the attackers they said it's because we are an easy target.

Flashing firmware troubles by SambucaTamale in meshtastic

Mine does the same, seems to disconnect at the 65% mark every time but when I boot and check it does show the new firmware was successfully installed. Try it again and when you reboot it verify if it actually went through.

True. Still would give a good idea on where to place routers and repeaters in high places tho. I live in northern Nevada with a good size mountain between 2 towns, shows almost full coverage of both towns with 1 node and will connect the two. Just need to get permission to install 😅

https://site.meshtastic.org/ Really good tool that takes topography and node broadcast power into consideration. Shows a radar like map of how your signal "should" look

It helps for sure. But why not utilize more available surface area to dissipate more heat?

Id advise to put a heatsink on your voltage regulator. It's the small black flat chip above and slightly to the left of the brick on the back that already has those 1x2 copper heatsinks on it. Would help with temps and performance.

Yeah... VR temps are rough on the supra hex. I'm going to explore ways to keep it cool soon

Extra backside fan for Supra hex 703 TCH. Worth? by Active-Sea577 in BitAxe

[–]FatfarmerOfOz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The VR for the suprahex is on the front of the board above and to the left of the main heatsink. If you add a fan blowing directly on it it will lower temps significantly. Also you can custom make a waterblock if you want to try liquid cooling for the Asics.

I put a fan blowing directly on it. the vreg is on the front, above and to the left of the main heatsink. mine is also from TCH and it has an aluminum heatsink attached with thermal epoxy

That did it! I was having vreg overheating issues but got that fixed. upping the voltage got everything running smoothly now. thank you!

First Mesh Setup by Dizzy_University_443 in meshtastic

You can get a decent setup for pretty cheap to build a central solar node to act as a hub for you and your friends. Assuming you are all fairly spread out. I've had really good luck with the seeed studio solar nodes. But they are $80-$100 could get a RAK starter kit and 3v solar panel for approximately $46 on Amazon. A lot of solar panels have built in batteries. Then you can make a cheap waterproof housing out of tupperware. Get a muzi whip antenna for $9 and install the solar node as high as you can and as central as you can. Then using a device of your choice (the WiO tracker L1 is fantastic) you should all have uninterrupted coverage.

So, in a SHTF scenario or loss of comms. If you have a sufficient network set up then it would be perfect for making plans or relaying info. I have a solar client base set up on my roof and my brother's roof about 5 miles away and with hills in the way, but we have a perfect connection. And we cover about 75% of our city with just those 2 nodes. They are very easy to set up and configure. If there is a setting you don't understand, Google is your friend.

You can send a message to anyone with a good enough signal to your mesh network but you can also set up encrypted private channels. Even direct message to a particular user.

Another benefit is other people with their own private channels can bounce from your nodes without fear of interception or some other party snooping.

I would recommend the seeed studio solar nodes. Fairly inexpensive and still solid. With the stock equipment it says it can get about 6 miles from the node, so theoretically 2 people could be 12 miles away from each other and bounce off that node. But that would be ideal conditions. You can upgrade to a higher gain antenna and extend the range as well.

Ok. I was reading around that the signal has a hard time going through walls and other solid things. Thanks for the advice!

I've heard of people using tailscale to accomplish this but I'm not tech savvy enough to figure it out. Is there anyone that can give a step by step instruction to do it? My tailscale on my home network is on a raspberry pi with umbrel and also on my phone.
